DIY Dollar Store Decorative Balls

Even though Valentine’s Day has now past I wanted to finish up one last item to round out my decor. I had this metal basket sitting in my hutch empty and sad looking. I knew I wanted to use some of those decorative balls in it but I didn’t know if I could find what I wanted or pay what they wanted! So I decided to make my own.
I grabbed these plastic balls at the $1 store. I would have preferred to have them without the holes but I don’t think they really were a problem in the end and 4 balls for $1 is a pretty good deal!
Awhile back I bought a pack of napkins at Tuesday Morning for a few bucks. I loved the print but I didn’t know what I was going to do with them, until I was trying to decide how to cover my balls. I cut them in strips and cut off the blank parts.
I used Mod Podge to attach the strips of napkin, staggering and overlapping them to cover all the exposed pieces of the ball. I made sure to smooth down the napkin as I went, knowing I could cover up any area that didn’t look right. I wanted to put on a couple layers to try and disguise the holes.
I also wanted to make a few more festive with some color. I pulled out some fabric leftovers and used the same technique as I did with the napkins.
Once the balls were completely covered I let them dry for a bit and then I covered them completely in Mod Podge to seal everything.
Once they were dried I threw them in the basket to see how they looking.
I love them and for the price you can’t beat ‘um! I paid $3 for 12 balls, about $5 for the napkins (I have a bunch left over), and some remnant fabric I had on hand. So for under $10 I have my own basket of decorative balls. I’m already coming up with more ideas and variations for the future.

Happy Friday everyone!!! Hope you all can enjoy your long weekend!
