Hanging Valentine Plaques

Most of you are familiar with my Valentine Mantle, but what you may have not noticed was this awkward space in between the mantle and the fireplace.

No, we didn’t put the mantle there. No, we can’t move it. It’s too high and honestly it kinda really bugs the crud out of me! However I am thankful that we have a fireplace and a mantle, while misplaced, it’s still a nice feature in our home. Me being me though, couldn’t just leave that empty space alone.
Remember that metal scroll from my thrifty adventures in Arizona? I knew I wanted to use it in this troublesome area and for $4.99 who could pass it up?
I started by painting some pieces of wood with some craft paint.
I found some papers that I liked and thought would fit in nicely with my mantle. Cut them to the size of the boards and decoupaged them on. I also cut out “LOVE” using my Cricut and decoupaged them on top of the papers.
I hot glued some black ribbon to the backs of the pieces of wood so that I could loop them around part of the scroll.

I then glued on some small Velcro pieces, one to each side of the ribbon. This allows me to easily detach and remove the boards so that I can change them with the seasons and holidays!
I hung up the scroll and attached the boards with the ribbon.
I am in love with the papers and they go so well with the items on the mantle!
Now that awkward space is filled and it’s pretty too!
