Time to Shine {Link Party} No 33

Brother 420 Project Runway computerized sewing machine
If there is one area of crafting that I have not explored yet it’s definitely sewing. I never learned and up to now I’ve been avoiding the subject by using Fabri Tac and hot glue. Don’t judge. For my birthday I got a super awesome sewing machine and super scary too!
Over the weekend my mom started to teach me the basics. I am fairly confident in my ability to thread the machine now. I’ve sewn a couple stitches in some fabric, I haven’t actually made anything useful or pretty. But you have to start somewhere right?
So what should be my first sewing project???

  1. Thanks for hosting!

  2. I remember when I first learned to sew, I was terrified of the machine. Once I got the hang of it, I fell madly in love with heirloom sewing! Thanks for hosting.

  3. I’ve been “sewing” with hot glue and basic needle and thread by hand. I’ve been considering taking the plunge and getting my own machine too. Is there a brand/style that you could recommend for a novice sewer?

  4. Try something easy…maybe some curtain panels…they are pretty easy. Thanks so much for hosting .

    Blessings,
    Linda

  5. @ Darby: I just got the Brother limited editon Project Runway sewing machine. It is SO easy to thread and the features really are awesome. I can see this machine being very easy to learn on. My mom, who has been sewing for years thinks the machine is “amazing”!!!

  6. Pillows are easy to sew! I don’t really “sew” but they taught us to make pillows in jr high home ec =) Thanks for hosting!
