My {DIY} Mud Porch

So, what’s a girl to do when she has no mud porch? No place for a mud porch? With jackets, backpacks, and shoes thrown all over the place? Well, a DIY girl creates her own mud porch!!!
This is the space in my home that I decided needed the makeover. The door to the right is the door into my garage and the door to the left is the door into my laundry room. As you can see it’s just a forgotten nook of the house and in serious need of some attention. We use the garage door way more that our front door, so it made sense to make this the place to hang our coats and drop our things.
Here’s what I came up with! I found some fantastic hooks at Hobby Lobby that were perfect for what I wanted. I needed each person in the family to have multiple hooks. I guess we have a lot of……stuff. Can you tell what my hubby does for a living? I’ll give you one guess!
I hung the kids’ hooks low so they could reach them. I really wanted the kids to start learning how to pick up after themselves…..we’ll see how it goes! So far my 3 year old is thrilled to “put on hook”!!!
I hung a picture of each kid over their set of hooks. I figured this was the best way to tell who’s is who’s since my youngest can’t read. I just used $1 store frames then painted them black and added some pretty ribbon. I popped in pictures of my loves and there ya have it!
Hanging above the kid’s pictures are some fabulous chore charts I bought from a store over at Etsy called Abbie’s house. Another attempt of mine to keep an orderly home…..again, we’ll see how it goes! I just changed out the ribbon to match my color scheme and they were ready to hang. Aren’t they cool?
Awhile ago I blogged about this great reclaimed wood bench. I was trying to find a place for it and decided this would make a great place to sit and put on shoes! It also makes a great place to throw my purse when we get home.
I did a giveaway with Willow Creek Signs a couple months ago and they very generously offered to send me one of their vinyl creations. I have been yearning to have a “keep calm” sign in my home for awhile now, so I knew when they made the offer that was my chance! The vinyl they sent was awesome!!! I painted a board a gloss black and slapped the vinyl on for a great statement! I LOVE it!!!
Heck, even the thermostat got a makeover!!! If you already decorating the whole wall why not throw a frame around the thermostat? Right? I just can’t leave well enough alone!
I love how organized this area makes the whole house now. Not only does it look awesome but it serves a huge purpose too. The whole family has been enjoying it so far….fingers crossed it stays this organized!
