Featured Guest Post {Attack of the Hungry Monster}

Hi, everyone! I’m Renee from Attack of the Hungry Monster.

Thanks so much to Courtney for allowing me to guest post on her awesome site. Today I’m going to show you how to turn a pile of thrifted sweaters…

…into awesome sweater gift bags!

Obviously you don’t have to go out and buy sweaters at a thrift store if you have some old ones laying around your house. To make these, you will need: *sweaters *sewing machine *yarn *scissors Yep, that’s it. Start by laying your sweater out and figuring out where you want to cut a square. I wanted the snowflake on this sweater to be in the middle, so I cut it accordingly. You can do any size you want. I just eyeballed it.

Then turn the front and back piece of your sweater facing the other way (turn them inside out) and sew the bottom and sides.

Ok, so I had never done a drawstring before this so I just kind of figured it out. If you know how to do a drawstring a better way, by all means do so 😉 I cut two long-ish strings of yarn and basically hemmed a casing around them, then poked them through on the sides of the bag.

Add some pom-poms for extra cuteness. Here’s a great tutorial on poms (sorry I forgot to take pics of my process) Also, as you can probably see from my picture of sweater bags above, I added a felt shape of deer or a snowflake on some. It just jazzed up a plain sweater and is totally optional. I did a quick Google image search of whatever shape I wanted, cut it out of felt and stitched it on the front sweater square (before I sewed it) using embroidery floss.

You can stow whatever you want in these cute lil’ bags. I made some corresponding arm warmers and put those in the bags as gifts to my cousins.

Ok, thanks for reading my guest post. Come by and see me at my site 🙂
