Thrifty Thursday #44

Anyone ready for a little Thrifty Thursday finds??? This week seems to be all about the chairs. Do you ever find that there are times when all you can seem to find are the same types of things over and over. For instance, several months ago, I had more desks than one could ever need. Right now it’s chairs. I think I have about 15 chairs in my garage right now. Oey!
I know these first ones are just chairs, but desks too. I got these two vintage school desks from a friend that was selling them.
They are in a little bit of rough shape and I need to decide if I want to leave them as is, or give them a makeover. Any ideas anyone???
I found these for sale from a local lady online. I absolutely LOVE the backs of the chairs. They are in need of a paint job for sure but otherwise they are in great condition!
The last chair I found at a local thrift store. It’s vintage, it’s cool, and it’s in great condition. With one tiny problem….it’s missing a seat! That’s not a big asset for a chair is it? Well I will have to come up with some kind of solution for it!
So those are my finds for the week! A little chair-a-palooza if you will.
Linking up to these great link parties!!!

  1. Great finds! I love those desks. 🙂 Megan

  2. I adore seeing all you finds. Here’s an idea for the chair missing the seat.
Polyurethane the entire chair. Underneath the chairs seat (hole), staple on a piece of heavy duty/metal screen. Add some good top soil and your favorite small plants and there you have it. A beautiful chair for your garden. It is fun and unexpected. All my friends are asking me to make them one.
    Happy Day. Enjoy!!

  3. I would love to have the vintage school desks. I need to go thrifting with you. 🙂

  4. I love thrifting! I got 5 chairs free from a Salvation Army because they were missing their seats. I am adding a slat seat for one of them for my daughter to use on her patio and then putting plants in others. What fun. Also got chairs of different styles to use at my farm table. Love them! Love your desks. What a fun find. I say paint them a funky color!

  5. consider mod-podging old book pages to the desk seats….i would spray the whole piece black (hesitate on the laminate b/c i kinda like it)…then mod podge over the clearly damaged wood sections. they are pretty great- you got a good snag!
on the seatless chair, i continue to be a fan of inserting a tin basin & putting a shallow plant in for a front porch/garden decoration, otherwise we have places in PA that do re-caning that could be really special.
    keep thrifting & picking-you inspire!

  7. diamond girl! you might have to become chair goddess!
desk suggestion: spray entire unit black (i would be torn about the laminate top surface,i like the tan). use old book pages or workbook pages to modpodge all the wood sections. then poly. i LOVE!
chair suggestion: i remain a fan of inserting a tin basin with a shallow growing plant into the hole, but, family in PA always trying to get me to just re-cane the seat- which could be nice if you need inside.
KEEP UP THE THRIFTING & PICKING….YOU CONTINUE to inspire!

  9. What great finds! I know you’ll come up with some creative solutions. The desks seem to be in perfect condition for painting. 😉 And the chair? Maybe create an upholstered seat to sit on top of the existing seat frame? The aqua buffet is gorgeous!!!

  10. How about some chalk paint. I’ve been reading on all sorts of recipes for diy chalk paint and it seems really easy to do! Patsy from
