We still have over a week to go until Thanksgiving, but like it or not Christmas is upon us! I know some of you have already started decorating (come on, you know you want to admit it) while others are holding out until all of the turkey has been eaten. Maybe a compromise? Add some neutral ideas to your Christmas decor and bridge the gap between wanting to decorate for Christmas and actually taking the plunge!
I’m pretty obsessed with sheet music (if you’ve been following along with me you probably already know that) and I wanted to incorporate that into my Christmas decor. I decided that I wanted to make some sheet music trees. I’ve seen a couple versions of “sheet music trees” but I wanted to try something different and create a different shape.
I grabbed my 2in circle punch and punched out a pile of sheet music circles. Using styrofoam as the base, I glued each paper circle on going one layer at a time. I used hot glue because I wanted instant results, but be careful when using hot glue as it can melt the styrofoam. I put the glue on the paper first, giving it time to cool a bit before applying it to the styrofoam.
I covered the entire cones, including the tops by laying a paper circle over top and gluing the overlapping paper onto the sides of the cones. Each paper circle should be overlapping that none of the styrofoam is showing through.
I painted two glass candlesticks and two wood craft finials black. I glued the painted candlesticks to the bottoms of the styrofoam to act as the trunks of the trees. I also glued the wood finials to the tops of the styrofoam trees because……well just because!
I think they turned out beautifully!
I absolutely love the scalloped edge that the punched out circles create! It adds a pretty feminine touch to these monochromatic trees. I think they look so pretty and elegant!
