We basically removed the drawer, cut a piece of plywood to fit the opening to fit in the bottom of the “drawer” space, removed the front of the drawer, and attached it to the piece of plywood with hinges. So you can see hinges when the drawer is pulled open, but only then. Hope that helps!

I love that no hinges show on your drop down drawer whether it is closed or open. Can you share how you constructed that drawer. I have a buffet that I want to do the exact same thing to. And, you had a brilliant idea to use textured wall paper. I’ll tuck that idea away for a future project. Absolutely great project!

How did you retrofit the drawer front to allow for the hinges? Did you just attach a piece of plywood to the front to create a flat surface for the hinges to attach to?

I love the drawer/hinge idea, I am currently working on an old vanity and the center drawer is broken missing one side they are dovetailed, I was trying to figure out how to do a hinged drawer and this is exactly what I need to do! If you can share the hinge type and any details about making the hinged drawer I would be very grateful!
