Part of me feels like apologies are in order, I’ve basically been MIA on the ole blog here. However, the truth is we had a completely crazy busy fun family filled summer and I wouldn’t of traded a second of it. In the past months we have been to the National Archery Tournament (NASP) in Louisville, the World Archery Tournament (NASP) Mrytle Beach, Disney World, Illinois, and we’ve driven to each of the places. I think my car has about 8,000 more miles on it and we’re one windshield down. Sigh.

Now the kids are back in school, if you can believe that, and I am itching to get back to my projects. I have a MAJOR to-do list going on right now. So for today, I am sharing the other side of the very last project I shared before my summer of craziness! Here is my Upcycled Footboard Coat Rack……….

Upcycled Footbard Coat Rack | A Diamond in the Stuff

A while ago I scored this awesome headboard and footboard. Earlier this summer I shared what I did with the headboard in my Farmhouse Headboard Bench post.

Farmhouse Headboard Bench | A Diamond in the Stuff

I absolutely love how the headboard bench turned out, so much so I want to keep it for myself and not sell it. However I have no place whatsoever for it. This is the pain of loving what you do! After that project was complete I needed to come up with a project for the footboard. It was shorter and that posed some problems. I considered a child sized bench, but I wasn’t in love with that idea.

Upcycled Footbard Coat Rack | A Diamond in the Stuff

I’m not really sure what finally inspired me but suddenly I knew that this footboard HAD to become an awesome coat rack.

I used some Country Chic chalk paint in Vanilla Frosting. This chalk paint is quickly becoming some of my favorite chalk paint to use and no that is not a paid opinion! But hey Country Chic if you’re reading this, hey lets chat! ; )

I picked out these really beautiful iron hooks from Hobby Lobby and secured them to the footboard with screws.

Upcycled Footbard Coat Rack | A Diamond in the Stuff

I did some distressing on the new coat rack just like I did on the bench. I wanted to see some of the dark wood from beneath, I used a sanding block and hit random high points.

There you have it! So if you have an old footboard, or headboard, or hey anything really (get creative) it can easily be turned into a stunning coat rack that is sure to make a big statement! Afterall, why hang your coat on a boring ole store bought coat rack when you could have something unique and one of a kind like this Upcycled Footboard Coat Rack!

Thanks guys for reading today and I’m going to try and get back on the horse! The project horse that is!!!

I had a show last month that I had to get tons of stuff ready for. I was running low on larger furniture items which meant lots of work needed to be done. So into the scary garage I went to start dragging stuff out and begin the transformations. One of the first items I knew that I wanted to tackle was a old wood headboard and footboard set. I had scored them for cheap but they were missing the side rails so it was time to get creative. That’s when the Farmhouse Headboard Bench was born.

Here is the headboard (and the footboard, I will get to that another day).

Farmhouse Headboard Bench | A Diamond in the Stuff

Step one was to create the bench structure. If you want a more detailed description you can visit my post about my Crib Bench. Basically we built a box out of 1×4’s, added legs, and 1×10’s across the top. Then we bolted the box to the headboard.

Now that the structure was built, it was time to make it pretty. I wanted the bench to have a farmhouse look to it so I chose to go with an antique white paint and stained seat. I used Dark Walnut stain by Minwax on the seat and on the “apron” and legs. I did the apron and legs too because I wanted the whole bench to be darker in color so that when I distressed it, everything would look uniform.

Once the staining was done, I painted everything except the seat top a creamy white. It took a couple coats of paint and then I did some distressing here and there. The dark stain beneath showed through beautifully. I used a clear coat on the painted parts and a wipe on poly for the stained seat.

Oh man, she’s a beauty! I love it. It’s simple and yet so pretty!

Farmhouse Headboard Bench | A Diamond in the Stuff

Before I stained the seat I had some fun ruffing the boards. I used a metal file, hammer, screws, and nails to give them a more aged appearance.

It has bench is rustic, but not too rustic.

It has an entirely different look then my Crib Bench and I love it just as much! The Farmhouse Headboard Bench quickly became one of my favorites and I’m trying to figure out how I need two upcycled bed benches in my house. But until then, this beauty remains for sale!!!

Thanks for stopping by!!

I have been in an industrial decor kind of mood lately apparently! I’m really loving the “industrial farmhouse” look right now so it’s inspiring a lot of what I’m working on. I just did a Makers Fair this past weekend and when my booth was all set up it reflected the mood I’ve been in. Which just so happened to make a pretty stunning booth if I do say so myself! One of the items in my booth was this fabulous Round Industrial Coffee Table. Want to see how I made it?

Thrifty Thursday Finds

It all started with this coffee table that I shared in a Thrifty Thursday post awhile ago. I ended up splitting the pedestal and the top into two separate projects because the original coffee table was attached in a jankey way. You can see what I did with the pedestal base HERE. As you can see in the original picture of the coffee table, the top was really unattractive. It looked beat up and not in a good way.

So I started the stripping and sanding process, which was quite the undertaking because it seems like there was globs of stain and clear coat on this thing. My plan was to sand all the way down to raw wood and then re-stain it. Well before that could happen I fell in love with it mid-makeover; I looked at the table top and it had a really neat naturally worn look to it. I stopped right there and decided that all it needed was a clear coat.

That took care of the top but now I needed a new base. Since I was in an industrial mood and I had just done another project with plumbing pipes, I decided to use them again. I made a Home Depot run and gathered up all the pipes, flanges, and end caps that I needed.

DIY Round Industrial Coffee Table | A Diamond in the Stuff

I really wanted the piping to be dark but they only had some of these items in the silver colored pipe. So I gathered up the pieces I needed and then planned to paint them. I first put the base together, then I used a primer especially for metal. Lastly I used some matte black spray paint and topped it off with a spray clear coat. It was super easy to attach the new pipe base to the wood top, just use some screws through the flanges.

Here is the finished piece!

I don’t know about you, but I think she is beautiful!!!

DIY Round Industrial Coffee Table | A Diamond in the Stuff

The wood is imperfect and has many flaws…..but I think that’s what gives it so much personality. I love the look of the worn away stain, I don’t think I could of planned it any better!

It made a really awesome meeting of two different styles that somehow works.

Well I hope you love my DIY Round Industrial Coffee Table as much as I do! It sure ended up different than I had originally planned and I love it so much more!

DIY Barnwood Coat Rack | A Diamond in the Stuff

I am still on my New Years organizing kick. No end in sight. I’m not only organizing but I’m giving a few areas a bit of a face lift. Since we move so often, if I am in one house for too long I get the itch to change things up. It’s the next best thing to a totally blank canvas. So this time around I am tackling an area in my laundry room. This area is located under my Crib Spring Drying Rack and it once housed my “wash” wall decor. That is now gone and in it’s place is my new DIY Barnwood Coat Rack

DIY Barnwood Coat Rack | A Diamond in the Stuff

I was really in need of another coat rack, mostly because this house has no coat closet. Read that. No coat closet. I mean, we are in the south so I get it I guess. But it still gets cold here in the winter! We have a little mud porch area on the opposite wall in our laundry room that has a few hooks. However with a family of 4 and kids with a silly number of coats, we needed more!

DIY Barnwood Coat Rack | A Diamond in the Stuff

Luckily I have a little stash of old wood so all I needed were some hooks. Hobby Lobby is pretty much my first stop when I’m looking for cute knobs and hooks. I picked up 6 big beautiful hooks for my coat rack. This was a pretty easy project! Step 1: cut wood to length I want. Step 2: Attach hooks to the wood. Step 3: Add hooks to the back of the coat rack. Step 4: Hand it on the wall.

Boom! Done!

DIY Barnwood Coat Rack | A Diamond in the Stuff

What’s better than an easy and beautiful project? Nothing that’s what! How fantastic does it look there above this little bench I moved in there?

DIY Barnwood Coat Rack | A Diamond in the Stuff

It looks so pretty right now but let’s face it, in about 5 minutes it will probably be covered in backpacks and jackets! So let’s just sit back and enjoy it while we can, ok?

So what do you think about my new DIY Barnwood Coat Rack?

Faux Card Catalog End Table | A Diamond in the Stuff

I love to add in touches of “industrial” into my home decor; old fans, industrial carts, shipping crates, etc. I really love old card catalogs, however they are really hard to find and when you do they are usually expensive. So when I ran across a little shabby side table at the thrift store all I could think was “card table wannabe”!!! Here’s how that shabby table became this beautiful Faux Card Catalog Side Table……..

Faux Card Catalog End Table | A Diamond in the Stuff

The table just had one big drawer but on the front it had these sectioned off areas that made it look like 6 little drawers. It was dingy, dinged, and missing a knob but none of that mattered. I could see something beautiful.

Quite a transformation huh? Amazing what some paint and new drawer pulls can do!!! Want to know the deets?

Faux Card Catalog Side Table | A Diamond in the Stuff

I painted the side table with some Country Chic Paint in Vanilla Frosting. It’s a pretty off white color and I have been using their paint for a few months now and I’m really liking it.

The new hardware came from D. Lawless Hardware. How absolutely awesome are these cabinet label pulls? They seriously MAKE the table!!!
