After our move we had some casualties. It’s bound to happen. We haven’t had a move yet where we didn’t loose numerous items that were broken beyond repair during the move. This last move was no exception. We had several things arrive broken or completely mutilated. I tell ya….this moving every few years is NOT for the faint at heart! Some of the items that end up broken are more upsetting than others. Some items are no biggie.

Here’s my Full Length Mirror Makeover…..

One of the items that arrived broken this move was a cheap full length mirror that we had hanging behind my daughter’s door. Luckily the mirror didn’t break, just the cheap plastic frame. For a split second I told my husband to just throw it out……but then I had a light bulb moment and decided that this mirror needed a new life.

I happened to have some 1×6 boards in the garage. I grabbed three of them and the hubby cut them down to be  longer than the mirror.

I grabbed some wood stain that I had on hand and stained the boards a dark ebony. The boards were held together by two cross-boards across the back of all three boards and then nailed together. We also used one of the cross-boards to hang the mirror by using two screws and attaching some strong wire.

I bought some decorative wood trim and a pretty wood applique to use on the mirror. I wanted these to stand out from the stained boards, so I first stained them with the same stain and then painted them with some Heirloom White spray paint. Once they were dry I distressed them all.

The mirror was glued straight onto the three boards with some Gorilla Epoxy and clamps. Then the molding and applique were glued on. Hang and done.

Pretty awesome transformation right?

I absolutely love the distressed white wood next to the dark wood. The applique adds such a pretty touch!

It’s amazing that this started out as a cheap mirror and now it looks so rich and expensive.

So even if you don’t happen to have a broken Full Length Mirror lying around, you can pick one up at a big box store for a few bucks and make one for yourself. Wouldn’t it be awesome to have a custom beautiful mirror for a fraction of the price? I think yes.

I hope you enjoyed my little trash to treasure project today!!!
