As a DIYer and crafter I find myself with a constant surplus of scrap wood laying all over the place! I am also known for not being able to let go of things that I think I may use down the road. When I started seeing some versions of “scrap” trees around I knew that was exactly the project that I needed for my scrap wood pile! So my Scrap Wood Christmas Tree was born!
I started grabbing different pieces of scrap wood from my pile. There are some molding pieces mixed in with some leftover cuts of lumber. Once I had all my wood picked out, I had my hubby cut them to varying lengths to make the shape of a tree. We also cut a long piece of wood for the “trunk”.
Then came the fun part…..painting! This is where I got to have a little fun! I grabbed three different colors of spray paint and some green rit dye. I wanted all of my….branches….to have lots of varying shades of green. The trunk was painted a light creamy brown and then it was ready to assemble!
We used nails to attach all of the wood branches to the trunk. Then the hubby made a little stand with what else? More scrap wood!
I love the varying shades of green in the tree. I had fun dying a few of the wood pieces with some Rit dye. I may or may not have also dyed my hands a little green in the process!
How stinkin adorable is this Scrap Wood Christmas Tree? I think this will look adorable on the front porch or it would make a great no maintenance tree alternative!!!

My {Red & Green} Christmas Mantel http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2011/12/my-red-green-christmas-mantel.html http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2011/12/my-red-green-christmas-mantel.html#comments Thu, 22 Dec 2011 20:00:00 +0000 http://174.132.189.156/~adits/2011/12/my-red-green-christmas-mantel.html
Alright it is finally time to post about my Christmas Mantel!!!
Last year I made my Window Ornament Holder and absolutely fell in love with it. It has to be one of my favorite ALL time projects!!! Certain holiday decor may come and go through the years but I am sure that this one will be sticking around for a very long time! So it of course is the center of my Christmas mantel!
Although, I did change some things up a bit this year but not a lot. I love keeping things basic with my color scheme and decor. Most of my Christmas items are bright red and green. It’s classic but I like a bit of the whimsy too!
I picked up the fun sparkly “NOEL” last year at an after Christmas sale. Every holiday decor needs a little sparkle right?
Have I mentioned that I’m obsessed with my window ornament holder??? I changed up the ornaments a bit from last year (more after Christmas sales)! If it’s possible I am even more happy with it this year!
I finally broke down last year and purchased some personalized stockings for the family. I always cringed at the price but decided that it was worth the investment and I’m so glad that I did!
This year I added some ruffle trees to my mantel decor. I picked up some fun polka dot and striped red and green ribbons at my local craft store. Ruffle trees got put on my “to-do” list last year and I’m so glad that I got to them! They are pretty easy to do and the end result is awesome!
I am so happy with the way that my Christmas mantel turned out this year! I couldn’t imagine anything better!
