We all love beautiful home decor. Really, that’s why we’re here right? Although, beautiful home decor isn’t always cheap. A big goal of mine is to take cheap items and turn them into beautiful, unique, and special items.
Take for instance, these pumpkins from the $1 store (the larger ones). They are an obnoxious shade of orange, they have an unsightly line around the middle, and the stem leaves something to be desired. But at $1 it’s hard to resist. So then the objective is to make these unsightly pumpkins into something….more attractive!
So I decided they needed a little dictionary and sheet music makeover! I bought a big old dictionary awhile back and it’s just been asking to be ripped up and decoupaged! And I always have a bunch of sheet music at my disposal! So I started ripping (oh did I forget to mention this is not for bibliophile’s that are faint at heart?) into the pages and created a pile of sheet music and dictionary pieces.
I decoupaged the ripped papers to the pumpkins, covering it in sections and letting it dry a bit before moving on. This was a very very messy project….Mod Podge everywhere! I put a top coat of Mod Podge over the entire thing once I had the whole pumpkin covered in the papers. I knew I wanted prettier stems for my pumpkins, so when the Mod Podge was dry I cut off the stem of the pumpkin and poked a hole in the top.
I decided to use a big cinnamon stick as the new stem, not only is it cute but it smells great too! I popped it into the top and hot glued it into place. To hide all the ugliness at the stem, I glued some Spanish moss all around the cinnamon stick. It not only hid the unsightly but it added some fun texture to the pumpkin!
Ta da!!! I think they have such a cool vintage feel to them! They would make a great addition to a white vintage Fall vignette. I can also see them tucked onto a bookcase or resting on a piano.
I love working with sheet music and book pages to create art, to me there is something beautiful and classic about the black and white papers. Plus I love anything just a little bit funky and different….but still classy!!!
