I have been in an industrial decor kind of mood lately apparently! I’m really loving the “industrial farmhouse” look right now so it’s inspiring a lot of what I’m working on. I just did a Makers Fair this past weekend and when my booth was all set up it reflected the mood I’ve been in. Which just so happened to make a pretty stunning booth if I do say so myself! One of the items in my booth was this fabulous Round Industrial Coffee Table. Want to see how I made it?

Thrifty Thursday Finds

It all started with this coffee table that I shared in a Thrifty Thursday post awhile ago. I ended up splitting the pedestal and the top into two separate projects because the original coffee table was attached in a jankey way. You can see what I did with the pedestal base HERE. As you can see in the original picture of the coffee table, the top was really unattractive. It looked beat up and not in a good way.

So I started the stripping and sanding process, which was quite the undertaking because it seems like there was globs of stain and clear coat on this thing. My plan was to sand all the way down to raw wood and then re-stain it. Well before that could happen I fell in love with it mid-makeover; I looked at the table top and it had a really neat naturally worn look to it. I stopped right there and decided that all it needed was a clear coat.

That took care of the top but now I needed a new base. Since I was in an industrial mood and I had just done another project with plumbing pipes, I decided to use them again. I made a Home Depot run and gathered up all the pipes, flanges, and end caps that I needed.

I really wanted the piping to be dark but they only had some of these items in the silver colored pipe. So I gathered up the pieces I needed and then planned to paint them. I first put the base together, then I used a primer especially for metal. Lastly I used some matte black spray paint and topped it off with a spray clear coat. It was super easy to attach the new pipe base to the wood top, just use some screws through the flanges.

Here is the finished piece!

I don’t know about you, but I think she is beautiful!!!

The wood is imperfect and has many flaws…..but I think that’s what gives it so much personality. I love the look of the worn away stain, I don’t think I could of planned it any better!

It made a really awesome meeting of two different styles that somehow works.

Well I hope you love my DIY Round Industrial Coffee Table as much as I do! It sure ended up different than I had originally planned and I love it so much more!

What a week it’s been. The kiddos had 3 “snow” days this week and my hubby had two. Yes we are in Louisiana. So after a 5 day unexpected weekend things are starting to get back to normal.

Now I’m ready to share my new Round Pallet Coffee Table…..

Round Pallet Coffee Table

Awhile back I shared this pedestal coffee table in a Thrifty Thursday post. I picked it up for cheap and I fell in love with the pedestal part of the table. When I picked it up the top of the table wasn’t in as good of shape as I hoped. I was afraid that even with a layer of paint it would still look like a beat up old table. So it sat in my garage.

Until I was inspired by a pile of pallet wood (also in my garage).

So we got to work. Step 1: plain down the ick on the pallet wood. Then lay out the boards to create a “new” table top.

Step 2: Find the true center of the “new” table top with a measuring tape. Put a nail in the center.

Step 3: Tie a string to the nail, then tie a pencil to the other end. Holding the pencil, move it around the wood boards creating a circle.

Step 4: Once your circle is drawn, use a jig saw to cut on the pencil lines. You can grab and cut one board at a time.

Step 5: Once all the boards are cut, line everything back up to make your circle. We used some cross boards to attach all of the pallet boards.

Step 6: Then it was time to paint the pedestal part of the table. I used some Annie Sloan chalk paint in old white. Can you see that plywood piece attached to the pedestal? That’s what we used to attach the table top to the pedestal. The plywood was added to the pedestal with a bolt and wood glue.

Step 7: I used Minwax wood stain to stain the pallet wood and Polycrylic (a couple coats) to seal the wood.

Step 8: We used screws and wood glue to attach the plywood (on the pedestal) to the new pallet table top.

I don’t know about you, but to me this is WAY better!

I mean….that dark stained pallet wood. Swoon.

Of course I love the pedestal even more now. I’m so glad I could do it justice by giving it a new fabulous top. What do you think of the Round Pallet Coffee Table?

Now the question is: What do I do with the old top???

These days I am operating my project list based partly on what I happen to have lying around. Which is a lot. I mean, garage full a lot. I have actually been doing pretty well in pairing down the volume. At least I think so….the hubby who is determined to eventually be able to park at least one of the cars in the garage may not think so.

One of the piles of “stuff” I have in the garage is a pile of old windows. I actually LOVE my pile of old windows and get a little sad when one of them gets turned into a project and leaves. Weird I know. But I love my old windows! I’ve been turning them into memo boards, adding vinyl sayings to them, and now it was time to turn one into a piece of furniture. Enter my DIY Simple Window Coffee Table…..

It all started with this chippy 6 pane window. It was a perfect window for this project because the wood was still in good sturdy condition and it had all pieces of glass intact.

Have you ever purchased wood legs from the hardware store? They are expensive right? I mean, the legs I needed for this project would of been almost $10 each. So that’s $40 right there in table legs. So then I got to thinking, “Is there a cheaper alternative?”. I wandered over to the spindle aisle and found some for under $2 each. Much better. I needed to cut a little off the tops and bottoms, but for the price it was worth it! I stained the spindles with a dark wood stain and then painted them with some off white paint I had on hand.

After the legs were stained and painted, I ruffed them up a bit with some sandpaper. Then they were attached using two L brackets on each leg. Pretty simple right?

I pretty much left the window alone; let rough edges be rough and let chippy paint be chippy. Cuz that’s how I roll.

DIY Simple Window Coffee Table

Didn’t the spindles turn out awesome? Not bad for $2 huh? Totally the look I wanted too!

DIY Simple Window Coffee Table

Pretty simple right? But oh so cute! Sad part is it looks so super cute in my living room….but alas it must go to my booth and find a new home! Hopefully someone will love it as much as I do!

So what do you think of my of  DIY Simple Window Coffee Table???
