MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE TO EVERYONE!!!

So it’s probably no big surprise that I love my Silhouette. Being able to create my own decor and gifts is so awesome. Taking something in my head and then holding the finished product in my hand is so gratifying. This may seem like an exaggeration to some, but crafting is my therapy.  This Christmas season I made several ornaments and I found myself using vinyl of all of them. So here are 5 Ornaments to Make Using Vinyl that you can make this Christmas break!

Manger Raffia Ornament

I filled a square ornament with cut up raffia and made the manger scene out of black vinyl.  I just left it at that because I loved the simplicity of the ornament.

Snowman Ornament

I used craft “snow” balls to fill the ornament and vinyl to make the cute face.

Glitter Monogram Ornament

You can find my tutorial for how to glitter your ornaments HERE. This can be done in any color of glitter and the monogram adds a great way to personalize the ornament.

Pearl Monogram Ornament

It’s fun to get adventurous with what items you choose to fill in the ornaments. I made this ornament for newlyweds. Pearls were a part of their wedding and using the couples new monogram is a fun way to celebrate their union.

Tinsel Ornament

I was inspired by a fellow crafter to make this ornament. I mean, that’s what we’re all here for anyways right? To inspired each other! Anyways, this one cracks me up! Especially because at one point or another in the holiday season I will always get my tinsel in a tangle. It’s a good reminder to enjoy the season!

DIY Glittered Ornaments

You may have seen these beautiful sparkly glittering ornaments around, but wondered how in the world do you make one? I know I was wondering just that question awhile ago. So I set out to make some for myself and I’ll share with you how I made my DIY Glittered Ornaments.

DIY Glittered Ornaments

Ornament Supplies:

-Glass or plastic ornaments

-Pledge FloorCare FINISH (it must be the finish not cleaner)

-Ultra Fine Glitter

-Ribbon (optional)

DIY Glittered Ornaments

To start, squirt some Pledge into one of the ornaments. I choose to use glass because I had a ton left over from last year. Once you have some of the liquid in the ornament gently swirl it around making sure you cover the entire surface of the inside. Be careful not to shake it too much because that will create bubbles.

After the inside of the ornament is covered with the liquid, it’s time to drain the excess out. I just placed the opening of the ornament inside the top of the bottle. I let it sit there a minute until I felt all the excess was out.

Then it’s time to add the glitter. THE FUN PART. I choose to use a funnel to cut down on the mess but if you have a steady hand it’s not required. Just simply pour some glitter into the ornaments, don’t worry about pouring too much in there.

Then place your finger over the ornament opening and give it a good shake. Make sure to get a good even coverage over the entire ornament.

Most likely there is some excess glitter left in the ornament that you will want to dump out. I simply pour it all back into the container. No point in wasting perfectly good glitter right? Then let things dry really well, I let it dry overnight.

Now your glitter ornament is complete. Just pop the hanger back into the top and your done. Or if you want, you can add vinyl words or images to your ornament. I choose to play around with different words and different vinyl colors. You can also add some ribbon to the top for a little extra fun!

Of course being a proud AF wife I decided to make a special little ornament for my hubby and I. I used blue glitter and some silver vinyl for this one. The options are endless, just let your creativity flow.

So what ornament are you going to make???

Are you enjoying Ornament Day so far? Let’s see….if you have missed any here is a recap: Sheet Music Ball OrnamentsVintage Tin Mold Music OrnamentsGerman Book Ball Ornaments, and Vintage Tin Mold German Ornaments.
I had a stack of leftover vintage maps from my son’s map dresser project and I LOVE to stash bust, especially this time of year! I decided that using them to make Map Ornaments would be a fabulous idea!
I love how each ornament is different and unique, with different colors and destinations. You can’t help but look at each one and try to spot familiar locations. My husband was trying to spot all the military bases, surprise surprise!
You can find a map of your hometown, where you live now, where you got married, or any other special destination. They would make a great gift for newlyweds, neighbors that are new to the area, or for a military family!

Sheet Music Ball Ornaments http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2011/12/sheet-music-ball-ornaments.html http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2011/12/sheet-music-ball-ornaments.html#comments Wed, 14 Dec 2011 08:00:00 +0000 http://174.132.189.156/~adits/2011/12/sheet-music-ball-ornaments.html
This year I was really itching to make some handmade ornaments. I ended up making several so I decided to hold an ORNAMENT DAY!!! I will be posting all of my ornaments all day long today. I’m not re-inventing the wheel here but I do LOVE how all of my ornaments turned out and I can’t wait to show them all off!
Since I am obviously in love with sheet music I knew that I had to make a sheet music ornament. These ornaments take quite a bit of time and patience to execute, but it’s so worth it! They have such a cool vintage feel to them.
I added some silver sparkle to the hangers on the top….because doesn’t glitter make everything better? Well in my world it does. The combination of vintage and sparkle is perfection!
Don’t they all look so pretty piled up in this old silver bowl together!
I will be posting more of my handmade ornaments all day today, so keep checking back for more ornament goodness!

Happy December 1st!!!
Normally on Thursdays I like to show off my latest thrifty finds, but I decided to change things up a bit. For the month of December I will be sharing some inexpensive gift ideas on Thrifty Thursdays! No matter your financial situation it’s always fun to find gift ideas that are not only “thrifty” but super cute too!
This inexpensive gift idea is for the kids and maybe the young at heart too! I decided to make some I Spy Ornaments. My kids have the books and other “I Spy” toys, so why not some ornaments too?Supplies:

Epson salt
Plastic Ornament Balls
Small trinkets
I decided to use plastic ornament balls instead of glass ornaments for obvious reasons! These ornaments are meant to be handled by little ones so I tried to make them as kid proof as possible. The ornaments can be filled with any small items that you would want, but I wanted to use Christmas themed trinkets to put into the ornaments. They are a mixture of mini ornaments and jewelry making items that I found in the Christmas section at the craft store.
Once all of the little trinkets were in the ornaments I funneled in some epsom salt. I choose epsom salt for a few reasons; it’s white like snow, it sparkles a bit, and I had it on hand.  Okay so having it on hand was a fairly large factor and another way it makes this gift idea even more inexpensive!
I used hot glue to securely attach the top to the ornament, because like I mentioned I was trying to make this as kid proof as possible. I added a bow to the top of the ornament for added cuteness!
If you are able to buy the supplies on sale or use coupons you can make one of these for just a few bucks! These I Spy Ornaments would make great gifts for the little ones on your list!
