Embroidery Hoop Pumpkins

When it comes to Fall I am a bit obsessed with pumpkins. I realized that most of my Fall decor is pumpkin related in some way. What can I say, I love pumpkins.

While I was browsing Jo-ann Craft Store I ran across this awesome orange and aqua chevron fabric. If you know me, you know I love aqua!!! My whole living room is aqua-ed out, so by default it becomes part of my seasonal decor. I was so excited for the combination of the two colors that I grabbed the fabric and threw it in the cart. I had no idea what I was going to do with it…but knew I needed it. Then inspiration hit and I decided to create these Embroidery Hoop Pumpkins.

Embroidery Hoop Pumpkins

For the supplies all I needed was…….

3 embroidery hoops of varying sizes

3 different fabrics

Ribbon

I matched up which fabrics I wanted with the different sizes of hoops, of course going with the chevron as the largest hoop. Adding fabric to embroidery hoops is super easy, just make sure you pull your fabric really tight to have a nice crisp look.

Once the fabric is in and the hoop is put back together, you’ll need to trim all the excess fabric. I used some fabric scissors to cut around the hoop.

I repeated steps 1 & 2 for all three hoops.

I wanted to add a little ribbon to the tops of the hoops for the “vines”. I picked three ribbons in coordinating colors and double knotted them.

That’s it. For under $20 and 20 minutes you have three adorable Embroidery Hoop Pumpkins.

I can not wait to find the perfect place for my new pumpkins to add to the collection!

House Number Pumpkins http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2013/10/house-number-pumpkins.html http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2013/10/house-number-pumpkins.html#comments Mon, 07 Oct 2013 15:04:16 +0000 http://adiamondinthestuff.com/?p=2361

House Number Pumpkins

The house is getting closer and closer to being “done”. Although, I will admit that I am a perfectionist and my version of “done” might be a little more extreme than others. We are just now getting the main living area put together enough that I finally got my Fall boxes down. I can’t let the season pass without decorating and working on some new projects. Crafting the last few months of the year is my most favorite!!!

So while I am finishing up in the house, I am continuing to Fall up the outside.

House Number Pumpkins

I have been wanting to create some House Number Pumpkins for some time. Since we are a military family I know that we will only be at one address for a few years….so I will at least be able to enjoy these for 3 years!

I bought some $5 pumpkins at Walmart, some burlap ribbon at Hobby Lobby, and some house numbers (any hardware store).

House Number Pumpkins

I knew I could of used vinyl, wood, or a variety of other options. I choose to use actual house numbers. However, they came with a reflective surface so I sprayed them with some hammered finish spray paint that I had lying around.

House Number Pumpkins

I just hot glued the house number to the pumpkins. The numbers came with small “nails”, they aren’t really functional but I glued them in anyways.

House Number Pumpkins

I used the burlap ribbon to make big bows and then hot glued them to the stems. The pumpkins needed something a little more and the burlap helped “Fall” them up even more.

House Number Pumpkins

We created a little flower bed around our new mailbox and I decided this was a great place for the House Number Pumpkins. I love how they look sitting in the wood park with the bricks.

House Number Pumpkins

I’m thinking of adding some dowels into the pumpkins so that I can secure them in the ground. Some of these Louisiana storms really get crazy and I’d hate to loose one of these!

So there ya have it, a pretty easy project but they sure are cute!!!

DIY Burlap Pumpkins with Real Stems
A couple days ago I wrote a post about a bunch of DIY Pumpkins and I got myself all inspired to make some pumpkins of my own. Awhile back I found some awesome orange burlap, at the time I didn’t really know what I was going to do with it but it’s ORANGE BURLAP so I had to buy it! I decided to use up some of my burlap stash and make some DIY Burlap Pumpkins with Real Stems.
I gathered up my supplies:
-Burlap (I used 3 different colors)
-Jute Twine
-Polyfill
-Large needle
-Stems
-Hot glue & Scissors
I am NOT, I repeat NOT a sewer. I have a machine but I’m a beginner. So I figured out a way to make these pumpkins with not a lot of sewing skills needed. I started by cutting out a large circle of burlap. I played around with the sizes of circles. The circles don’t need to be perfect, I just free handed them.
I wanted to use a “thread” that was heavy duty like the burlap, so I pulled out some jute twine that I had in my stash. Of course I then needed a heavy duty needle. I pulled out the largest needle with the largest eye to use.
I threaded a long piece of twine through the needle and tied it off at the end. Then I began a running stitch through the burlap. Again this doesn’t need to be perfect, I did no measuring.
Once I had stitched all the way around the edge of the burlap circle, it was time to add some fiberfill. I just grabbed handfuls and filled the pumpkin up. I didn’t fill it to the brim or overfill it, I wanted the pumpkin to be more squatty.
Once the pumpkin was all filled with the stuffing I pulled on the twine tightly, cinching up the opening. I did a couple stitches where the opening came together and then tied off the twine with a knot.
Then it was time to add the stem. Last year while picking pumpkins at the pumpkin patch we were on the hunt for stems with no home. I ended up bringing home several and they’ve just been siting ever since, waiting for a project! I used some hot glue to attach the stems to the burlap pumpkins.
There you have it, fabulous DIY Burlap Pumpkins!!!
I loved playing with the orange, white, and natural burlap colors. I made pumpkins in all three colors and in varying sizes.
The real stems add a fun whimsical element to the pumpkins. I tried to match up the size of the pumpkins to the size of the stems.
I am crushing pretty hard on these DIY Burlap Pumpkins with real Stems right now!!! They were fairly easy to make and are so stinkin cute!!! Don’t ya think???
