Embroidery Hoop Pumpkins

When it comes to Fall I am a bit obsessed with pumpkins. I realized that most of my Fall decor is pumpkin related in some way. What can I say, I love pumpkins.

While I was browsing Jo-ann Craft Store I ran across this awesome orange and aqua chevron fabric. If you know me, you know I love aqua!!! My whole living room is aqua-ed out, so by default it becomes part of my seasonal decor. I was so excited for the combination of the two colors that I grabbed the fabric and threw it in the cart. I had no idea what I was going to do with it…but knew I needed it. Then inspiration hit and I decided to create these Embroidery Hoop Pumpkins.

For the supplies all I needed was…….

3 embroidery hoops of varying sizes

3 different fabrics

Ribbon

I matched up which fabrics I wanted with the different sizes of hoops, of course going with the chevron as the largest hoop. Adding fabric to embroidery hoops is super easy, just make sure you pull your fabric really tight to have a nice crisp look.

Once the fabric is in and the hoop is put back together, you’ll need to trim all the excess fabric. I used some fabric scissors to cut around the hoop.

I repeated steps 1 & 2 for all three hoops.

I wanted to add a little ribbon to the tops of the hoops for the “vines”. I picked three ribbons in coordinating colors and double knotted them.

That’s it. For under $20 and 20 minutes you have three adorable Embroidery Hoop Pumpkins.

I can not wait to find the perfect place for my new pumpkins to add to the collection!

DIY Mod Fabric Pumpkins http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2012/09/diy-mod-fabric-pumpkins.html http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2012/09/diy-mod-fabric-pumpkins.html#comments Wed, 19 Sep 2012 07:00:00 +0000 http://174.132.189.156/~adits/2012/09/diy-mod-fabric-pumpkins.html
After making my Burlap Pumpkins with Real Stems last week it got me thinking about all the fun possibilities for DIY fabric pumpkins. So after a trip to the fabric store and some creativity in the “stem” department…..my DIY Mod Fabric Pumpkins were born.
I knew that I wanted to go with some funky graffic patterned fabrics and found just what I was looking for. I used the same method as I did with my Burlap Pumpkins to make them.
I however got a little inventive with the “stems”. Since I am not a sewer by any stretch of the imagination, I knew making some sewn stems was not an option. I was all out of my real stems from my burlap pumpkins. So while perusing the craft wood aisle I found some wood shaker pegs that I thought would work wonderfully!
I painted the wood pegs with craft paints to match the fabrics I had chosen. Once I had made the pumpkins I simply used some hot glue to attach the wood stems into the small openings at the top. The shape and modern feel of the “stems” add to the whole Mod feel of these pumpkins!
I tied things off with a sweet little bow with some coordinated ribbon.
These DIY Mod Fabric Pumpkins are definitely a more modern and funky take on the fabric pumpkin. I love their bold and fun colors and patterns of the fabric, they make me happy.

So what do you think of my Mod Pumpkins???
