The other day on my facebook page I mentioned pulling off the road for some “dumpster diving”. Well if you were curious what I picked up….here it is!

I spotted this headboard propped up against a trashcan at the curb. Of course I quickly pulled over and immediately got the 3rd degree from my kids. They are the type of kids that notice any change or difference in our day to day routines. The minute something “unusual” happens I get bombarded with questions. I quickly loaded the headboard in the back of my minivan and hopped back into the car. Upon which my children began asking if I had just stolen something. I tried to explain the complexities of dumper diving but I don’t think they grasped the concept. I guess most of my trash finds seem to happen when I’m alone.

I still don’t think that the kids are convinced that I didn’t STEAL the headboard….either that or they just love giving their mom a hard time! When I pulled the headboard out of the van my neighbor commented on the fact that she had considered stopping for the same treasure. Looks like I snagged it JUST in time!

Thrifty Thursday #61

So it’s been quite awhile since I have posted about my Thrifty Thursday finds! To be honest, since leaving my current consignment mall booth I haven’t really been trying to snag a whole bunch of thrifty finds. I am on a ton of waiting lists and I miss so much having my own space. So if you know of anyone or anywhere in the Shreveport/Bossier City area in Louisiana let me know ; )

Every once in awhile a score a great find and I keep it ALL to myself! Well this is one of those scores! I stumbled upon this church pew on a facebook page for $75. Now let me mention that I have wanted a church pew for….well years. Of course this isn’t exactly what I had in mind when I had done all that wishing, but it was like one I had never seen before.

This church pew has really awesome individual cushioned seats. Of course my first concern was, do those seats come detached so I can recover them? Fortunately they do! So right now this isn’t much to look at, but I have BIG plans for this little gem. I can look past the cobwebs and fuzzy peach seats and see it’s potential! I can’t wait to tackle this one!

If you are reading this post, thank you for joining me on my blogging journey! I have been wanting to create a blog for awhile, my own technical ignorance keeping me from it. What’s an HTML??? I still don’t know! So bare with me on the technical stuff! I am hoping to share lots of fun projects and to offer inspiration to you while hoping to find some in return!

Well since this is a crafting blog and my first post I might as well get things started with a project!!!

Here is a hutch that I found along with a dining set that I scored on Craigslist (the dining set will be a project for a later day!). It’s hard to tell from the picture, but the paint looked to be just primer (or flat paint). It was sanded in weird places, there was pink paper glued into the cut in designs, and it was filthy! There was also a glass door on the hutch that I decided to leave off.

With the help of my very knowledgeable mom, we gave new life to this hutch over a weekend. We gave it a new coat (a few actually) of paint, did some distressing, and the largest Mod Podge project I’ve ever attempted! I definitely attempted some techniques for the first time on this project, went out of my comfort zone that’s for sure. The inside of the hutch is covered in a black and white toile fabric. I had never done Mod Podge with fabric before, it is a little bit tedious but not very difficult. I think I’m in love! I want to Mod Podge everything now! I wonder if they sell the stuff by the case?
