Can you believe October is here? I know I can’t. I had a minor freak out when I realized I had done nothing to prepare for Halloween….no costumes purchased, no decorations out, nada. So after a quick trip to the online costume shop I decided to whip up some super cute DIY Candy Corn Mason Jars.

DIY Candy Corn Mason Jars

I started out with some regular pint mason jars.

Then I used some white chalk paint to paint the entire jars. It took a couple coats for good coverage.

I searched my local craft stores for a good yellow and orange chalk paint but I couldn’t find anything I liked, so I just grabbed some regular ole craft paint. I used frog tape to tape off my lines, I’m horrible at free handing straight lines.

After I had all the paint on there and dried, I distressed the mason jars. I used a sanding block and focused on the raised spots on the jars. I also added a clear coat to protect the paint.

These Candy Corn Mason Jars turned out so stinkin cute!!! I’m going to fill them up with some Halloween candy and give them as teacher gifts.

Five Friday Faves http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2014/03/five-friday-faves-3.html http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2014/03/five-friday-faves-3.html#respond Fri, 14 Mar 2014 05:00:46 +0000 http://adiamondinthestuff.com/?p=2865

Five Friday Faves

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Why is it that every. single. Friday. I feel like I just ran a week long marathon. It could be motherhood. That’s what I’m putting my money on. That crazy little mini army that I created. But HEY it’s Friday and I get to share some of my favorite things right now! I’d love to hear if you love any of these items TOO!

Frosted Pistachio Bread recipe on { lilluna.com }

First up is this super yummy Frosted Pistachio Bread from Lil Luna. Immediately when I saw this bread on Kristyn’s blog I knew I had to make it for my hubby. He LOVES pistachio….well everything! So I whipped up a batch when he returned from a work trip. To say he liked it would be an understatement. At one point he told me to hide it from him so he would stop eating it. So I’ll be making this again. Soon.

Hot Glue Gun Helpers - 7 Piece Set - No More Burns

Next up is one of the best crafting buddies. If you haven’t met them, let me introduce you to the Hot Glue Gun Helpers! There is almost nothing worse than a hot glue gun burn while crafting. Trust me, I’ve had a few. These helpers have saved me in MANY ways! Not just my fingers either! The handy dandy mat has protected many of my crafting surfaces! Honestly, if you’re going to use a glue gun you have to own one of these!

When it comes to my home I can get quite….particular. Just ask my hubby. He will tell you that I obsess over organization and order. Little things bug me, like nicks in my wood furniture. That’s why I LOVE these wood repair markers. As I notice little nicks in my furniture, I pick out the matching marker, color in the nick, and that’s it!

My daughter often asks me what my favorite color is. I find myself at a loss usually. Overall I just love color! But I guess if I HAD to pick ONE color it would be Blue Ocean Breeze by Krylon! I really really love this color. If you’ve been to my living room you already know this! It is a bright happy color without being too abrasive. Plus this spray paint is just awesome in general. If you haven’t tired Blue Ocean Breeze yet, go grab a can now! It’s the perfect color for Spring!

Lastly, I am loving this tutorial to make your own Mason Jar Foaming Soap Dispenser from Pretty Handy Girl. I have been wanting to make my own mason jar soap dispenser for quite some time. I’ve even had the pretty blue mason jars sitting around forever. So this week my hubby and I finally made a couple of them! They turned out wonderfully and I’m so glad to finally have some made!

Well that is it for the week! I hope you enjoyed my Five Friday Faves round up! Let me know what you think about my picks this week……

DIY Natural Wood Stain

Earlier this week I shared my DIY Natural Wood Stain. It also ranks up there with some of my fave DIY products and I make it all myself! It’s a MUST for any DIYer to have around!

Spring Primitive Apothecary Jars http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2011/03/spring-primitive-apothecary-jars.html http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2011/03/spring-primitive-apothecary-jars.html#comments Fri, 11 Mar 2011 17:42:00 +0000 http://174.132.189.156/~adits/2011/03/spring-primitive-apothecary-jars.html You may remember my Primitive Apothecary Jars that I did a couple months ago. I made another set but with a Spring twist.

I painted them Peakaboo Blue by Krylon. Once they were painted they reminded me off a robins egg, perfect for Spring!
I gave them a good sanding to distress them. I then took DecoArt’s Glazing medium and mixed it with some DecoArt Asphaltum. Using a brush I painted the glaze on and after letting it sit for a minute, wiped it off.
Of course, since I was already thinking of robin’s eggs, why not add some? I added some Spanish moss for nests and some little blue eggs I found at Target.

If you looking for a tutorial please visit my original Primitive Apothecary Jars post! I used Gorilla Glue Epoxy (It’s my new favorite glue) with this set though.

Primitive Apothecary Jars http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2011/01/primitive-apothicary-jars.html http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2011/01/primitive-apothicary-jars.html#comments Fri, 07 Jan 2011 14:00:00 +0000 http://174.132.189.156/~adits/2011/01/primitive-apothecary-jars.html So yesterday my internet was out. all. day. I can’t tell you how many times I headed to my laptop to look something up or do research on something just to be reminded that, for at least one day, I was living in the stone age! Okay maybe a bit dramatic, but what can I say? I feel very attached to my computer!
On to the project I intended to show you yesterday……I made this project with my apothecary jar out of junk in mind, but with a primitive twist!
I started out with these items: Two candlesticks, two round wooden bases, two small round discs, two finials and two smooth mason jars.
Everything is already glued together in
those pictures
using a good friend of mine:
Gorilla Glue!
Here is the project all put together after I painted the bases and tops black. I did some light distressing on the places I painted to add to the primitive feel.
I tied some raffia to the tops and added some more inside the jars. Some candles add a little warm glow, don’t worry they are battery operated!
The possibilities are endless for these rustic apothecary jars! I can just imagine them brimming with candy or other yummy goodies. Or filled with pretty soaps for your guests. Or a fun way to hold your sea shells, pebbles, or other found treasures.
What would you put in them?
