Starfish Yarn Wreath

Awhile ago I created this Starfish Yarn Wreath for Crafts Unleashed. I realized that I never posted it here and with summer here I thought it was the perfect time.

I grew up about 5 miles from the beach in Southern California. I never realized how much the beach lifestyle is in my blood until I moved away when I married my Air Force husband. Now that I have experienced living in different states I realize just how much “California” I am. I have an affinity for anything that reminds me of the beautiful beaches. So I have several starfish and other items around my home to always keep the beach with me. My love for all things beachy inspired this beautiful Starfish Yarn Wreath.

Starfish Yarn Wreath

How to:

Step 1: Collect your items (wreath form, yarn, starfish, hot glue, and ribbon)

Step 2: Glue the end of your yarn down to the wreath form to begin wrapping.

Step 3: Wrap your wreath form in yard, moving around the form as you go. If you want, you can glue down the yarn in places as you go. Cut the yard and glue down the end once you have made your way around the entire form.

Step 4: Use hot glue to attach the starfish.

Step 5: Add ribbon to the wreath for easy hanging.

This wreath was fairly simple to make and didn’t take long to make….but it sure looks beautiful. I love when that happens….a simple quick project and beautiful too. Fabulous.

Starfish Yarn Wreath

It screams beach don’t you think? I think it should be hanging in a lovely beach cottage somewhere.

If you happen to be taking a beach trip this summer….keep your eyes open for starfish along the shore. You could make your own Starfish Yard Wreath to showcase your souvenirs.

Nautical Pallet Flags

I wanted to transform my wood pallets into nautical flags replicas. So I did some searching around and found some images of flags that I liked. I decided to stick with basic Americana colors for my flags.

All three pallets got started with a coat of white craft paint. It acted as a “primer” and an easy way to paint on the white areas.

Then it was time to tape off the pallets and create the actual flag designs. By the way, I love this painters tape!!!  I used the blue and red craft paint to finish off the pallet flags. I tried to pick flags that would be easily replicated onto the pallets.

I wanted the flags to look old and weathered so I busted out the sanding block and got to work. I gave all the pallets a really good sanding.

I did end up spraying the pallets with some clear spray paint I had on hand to protect them. They were super easy to hang with the cross pieces of wood on the back of the pallets. You could add a picture hanger to it or just rest it on a couple nails.

I made three pallet flags because I love decorating in threes, just feels right. It also gave me the opportunity to make three different kinds of flags, each one different but coordinated.

Nautical Pallet Flags

I absolutely love these pre-made pallet signs! Jo-Ann stores has a variety of them now, in different sizes and shapes. They make doing a project like this a breeze! I have a ton of ideas for these, there are endless options!

Jo-Ann makes Spring crafting easy during National Craft Month with a $5 off $25 or more purchase coupon and a Spring crafting inspiration website. Seriously they have made it so easy for you! crafting inspiration to get you going and a coupon to make it happen!!!

I think these Nautical Pallet Flags would make great decorations to transition from Spring to Summer as well.
