Glitter Reindeer Silhouette

If you’ve seen my last few blog posts you know that I have a new Christmas color scheme. To avoid going out and buying all new decorations I of course decided to make some for myself. I make and sell a lot of my creations; sometimes it’s nice to just create custom items for little ‘ole me! A few weeks ago I made a Reindeer Subway Art Sign and decided that it needed a friend. So I created the Glitter Reindeer Silhouette sign.

Want a little tutorial????

Step 1) Grab a board, plaque, or canvas; whatever your hearts desire! My board was just a random wood scrap I found in the garage. It’s a 1×12 board and I think it was a 5in cut.

Step 2) Paint your board. This will be the “background” color of your board. I decided to go with a non-traditional “aqua” (Bahama Blue by DecoArt) to match my new Christmas pallet.

Step 3) Cut vinyl in the shape of a deer (or a reindeer if your feeling festive). I used my Silhouette to cut the outline of a deer head and weeded out the image so I was just left with the “stencil”.

Step 4) Paint inside the stencil with your background color (aqua in my case) to prevent any bleeding under the vinyl. Then paint the color that you want your deer head to be when the background coat is dry.

Step 5) Once the paint is completely dry, fill the inside of the stencil with Mod Podge and sprinkle glitter on it. I choose to match the red paint and red glitter so that if I had any missing spots of glitter it wouldn’t be too noticeable.

Step 6) When the Mod Podge is dry, shake off the excess glitter. I choose to shake it off into a paper plate and funnel it back into the glitter container. I’m thrifty like that. Then peel the vinyl off of the sign to reveal your sparkly reindeer! For good measure I sprayed a clear top coat on top of the sign to “lock” in the glitter.

There ya go, that’s it!

I love a little bit of sparkle in my Christmas decor. I’m usually not a blingy flashy kind of person but at Christmas it just seems so right.

I normally would of added a picture hanger to the back of the sign but it found it’s new home on my fireplace hearth. It’s the perfect addition to my Aqua and Red Christmas Mantel!

So I’m curious, have you created any of your Christmas decor???

Now Dasher, Now Dancer {Subway Art}

I know I have been pretty absent lately….and for that I apologize. During any other year, this time of the year is crazy. Nuts. Insane. But this year times that by a few! Between my awesome hubby receiving a promotion in the Air Force, family visiting, a very successful crafters show, and getting ready for and helping out with my brother-in-laws wedding next week……I am crazy busy. So busy I think they need to come up with a new term for it. Busy just doesn’t cut it right now.

Throughout all the craziness I have been of course crafting. Like I said, I participated in a local Makers Fair this year and it was my best show to date. Being surrounded by a show solely of handmade items is inspiring and exciting! Add to it all the things I’ve been making for the upcoming wedding and my craft room has been getting a workout. Knowing that we will be out of town for Thanksgiving/the Wedding I decided to get my house decorated for Christmas NOW so we can come home to Christmas ready home when we return.

Once I pulled out all my Christmas stuff and started setting up I realized some things needed to go and there was a need for some new items. This is our first year decorating in our new home and it seems like every house we’ve lived in requires a shuffle of holiday decor.

A few weeks ago I designed  this Reindeer Subway Art in my Silhouette software. I finally got around to actually making the sign using THIS technique.

I absolutely LOVE it. It goes perfectly with my new Christmas color pallet…..can you tell what it is???? Now sit tight because more projects are coming soon! I promise!
