One of the amazing perks of living on a military base is when people move they want to get rid of things. Some people just want to have less to move to their new location and some people need to get rid of the things that don’t work in their new home. One day while driving around on base I came across a free desk. I could tell it was an older desk and really well made, so I decided it was coming home with me.
I am sad to say there is no before picture. So lets close our eyes and imagine…..it was a dark wood, there was an area where the old owners had tested a very flat grey paint, and there was broken and missing drawer pulls. Got the visual? Basically it was in good shape but needed a lot of TLC.
I painted the dresser with a few coats of primer, it took a bit to get the dark wood fully covered. Then I choose a creamy white as the top coat. Since I enjoy it so much, I decided to do a bit of distressing. I didn’t go too crazy, just hitting a lot of the edges.
Now on to the star of the show…..the vintage sheet music. I have accumulated a stack of vintage sheet music that I have found here, there, and everywhere. I grabbed a mismatch of different sheets from different music books because I wanted an eclectic look. I used some Mod Podge to attach my pages to the desk top.
This desk needed new drawer pulls and I just happen to have another desk sitting in my garage. It also has a broken drawer pull BUT it had more drawers than this desk. So I was able to take the remaining pulls from that desk and use them on this desk. No new holes being drilled, no holes being filled. So awesome! I’m so happy that I was able to use some vintage pulls for this desk.
I absolutely love how the desk turned out! The whole vintage feel makes me happy. This desk is off to my space at Sweet Repeats and hopefully it finds a home that loves it as much as I do!

Sheet Music Ball Ornaments http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2011/12/sheet-music-ball-ornaments.html http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2011/12/sheet-music-ball-ornaments.html#comments Wed, 14 Dec 2011 08:00:00 +0000 http://174.132.189.156/~adits/2011/12/sheet-music-ball-ornaments.html
This year I was really itching to make some handmade ornaments. I ended up making several so I decided to hold an ORNAMENT DAY!!! I will be posting all of my ornaments all day long today. I’m not re-inventing the wheel here but I do LOVE how all of my ornaments turned out and I can’t wait to show them all off!
Since I am obviously in love with sheet music I knew that I had to make a sheet music ornament. These ornaments take quite a bit of time and patience to execute, but it’s so worth it! They have such a cool vintage feel to them.
I added some silver sparkle to the hangers on the top….because doesn’t glitter make everything better? Well in my world it does. The combination of vintage and sparkle is perfection!
Don’t they all look so pretty piled up in this old silver bowl together!
I will be posting more of my handmade ornaments all day today, so keep checking back for more ornament goodness!
