Window Memo Board Coat Rack | A Diamond in the Stuff

Several years ago (almost 5 to be exact) I gave an old window a makeover. This yellow window was one of my first projects to be posted here at ADitS and it was my first big vinyl project. A bit of a blast from the past if you will. My style and my techniques have evolved just a tad since then. After it’s first makeover it had a home in the kitchens of our last two houses. When we moved into our current home (yes that means 3 houses in the last 5 years) there was no place to hang my yellow window up so out in the garage it went. Finally I decided to give this window memo board a makeover, again!

The yellow window had been a bit beat up and the chalkboard and memo board pieces had seen better days. I was also tired of the yellow. It needed something new and fresh. The window got a new paint job using a beautiful aqua chalk paint. I replaced the two end openings with sheet metal cut to size and spray painted with chalkboard paint.

I was also over the old vinyl saying I had on the window, so I updated that too with my Silhouette. It’s almost like a completely new window, a completely new project.

The one thing that stayed the same was the old glass door knobs that I left on the window for hooks. They are just too darn pretty to replace and they look great on the new makeover!

Overall the makeover of the makeover turned out beautifully. I don’t think this Window Memo Board Coat Rack deserves to be exiled into the garage any longer!!!

New Life for an Old Window http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2010/08/new-life-for-old-window.html http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2010/08/new-life-for-old-window.html#comments Wed, 18 Aug 2010 17:09:00 +0000 http://174.132.189.156/~adits/2010/08/new-life-for-an-old-window.html While searching the base garage sales MONTHS ago I stumbled upon an old window (I am a SUCKER for old windows). The lady selling it wanted a dollar for it. GASP, only a dollar? SOLD! So I proudly drug it home and started thinking of what I could do with it. I had one idea and that morphed into another. As most of you crafters know, sometimes projects throw curve balls our way and we have to adapt. While trying to get the window cleaned up I broke one of the pains of glass. I was SO bummed! I had to come up with a new idea, one that would now involve a glassless pain. Looking back I am so glad that the glass did break, I LOVE how the window turned out, it’s better than my previous vision!!!
My kitchen has a lemon theme and the colors are yellow, black, and white. I knew I wanted yellow for the window (even when I saw the horror on my husbands face as I pulled out the can of very very yellow spray paint and started painting, I KNEW I wanted yellow). But first I had to clean this thing….here it is in all it’s green filthy splendor:
Here is the final product!!! On the far left is a corkboard covered in fabric and on the far right is a magnetic chalkboard. I loved the quote in the middle and this was my first major project using vinyl on my Cricut. It’s not perfect and it was quite time consuming while I tried to navigate the very steep learning curve!!! If you have a Cricut or ever tried using one, you know what I mean. They are amazing but take some getting use to!!!
I added some old glass doorknobs to the bottom of the window (with the help of my VERY helpful hubby) so that I could hang things, like my apron!
I’m going to make some matching magnets and pushpins….at some point….when I get to it! : ) On another note, since I was kinda having fun with the vinyl I decided to label my trash cans, that way guests don’t have to ask “Which one is the trash?”!
I would REALLY like to see any of your vinyl projects that you’ve done. I’m gonna need someone to teach me how to have a link party!! But until then, leave a link in the comments section! Oh, and let me know what you think! Happy Hump Day!!!
