I am ashamed to say that after Christmas my mantel hasn’t been much to look at. I haven’t felt inspired to do much with it until Spring hit. Then I got the itch to decorate but I was stumped on what I wanted to do. I wanted something bright and happy but nothing too fussy. I had been wanting to put up a wooden monogram for quite sometime so I decided my new mantle would become my Spring Monogram Mantel.

Once of the first things I knew I wanted to add to my new mantel was these old wood spindles. I shared them on a Thrifty Thursday quite awhile ago and I knew they would make beautiful candle holders. We cut off a little bit of the yucky ends of each spindle to make them stand more level and even. I kept them completely as is, except for cleaning them up a bit. I loved how chippy they were! I topped them with two battery operated candles (they look so real don’t they?).

After wanting one for quite awhile, I finally ordered a wood monogram of my hubby and my initials. I bought it plain and decided I wanted to paint it myself. I’m glad I did because I ended up wanting to match it to the candles I bought. After I painted it, I hung it up on a large old window with some pretty lace ribbon.

On the other end of the mantle I placed a pretty aqua colored old book. Isn’t it perfect? Since this was to be a “Spring” mantel makeover, I wanted some greenery up there. I added some faux plants to some milk glass that I had collected along the way. They add the perfect Springy pop.

I love how everything came together. Exactly what I wanted; bright and happy but not fussy.

My house feels complete when I have a decorated mantel. So do you change out your mantel decor throughout the year or do you pick one and stick with it.
