Framed {Key} Art

I am SO in the mood to stash bust right now. This is probably partially because it’s Spring, but really it’s probably more about being VERY close to not being able to walk through the garage. So I’m slowly starting to look around and tackle some projects that I’ve been wanting to do. I’m trying VERY hard to not bring too many new things home. Trying, not necessarily succeeding.
I had a box filled with old keys. Not skeleton key old, but definitely old. I had been holding on to them to create something. Did I mention it’s hard for me to throw something away that I think I will be able to use eventually? Hence the garage navigation issues! I decided to just grab the keys and create some unique wall art. I sat and played around with the keys for a bit until I came up with something I loved, using all of the old keys to form one large old key.
I had a picture frame that I found at a thrift store, surprise surprise. What I needed was a back for it. So I used a thin piece of craft wood and attached some burlap to the front of it. Then it was time to transfer all the old keys onto the burlap for gluing. Even though I worked very carefully to preserve the shape that I had laid out, this was actually a very time consuming process.
When all the keys were properly arranged and glued onto the burlap, I popped it all into the frame and called it done. I love how all the little keys form one large skeleton key!
I love the look of all of the old tarnished keys together. It’s no secret that I love tarnished metals.
It was a lot of fun creating this Framed Key Art. It’s unique and one of a kind. A fun way to display a collection of old keys with many memories attached to them.
