Last week I showed you an inexpensive gift idea for the kiddos on your list. This Thrifty Thursday, I have an idea for the sewers on your list. After all, there is only so many needles and spools of thread that they need. I had some extra mini picture frames lying around with glass so I decided to whip up some fun pincushions.
These picture frames are about the size to hold a wallet sized photo and I got them at the dollar store. I gave each of them a coat of spray paint and picked out a coordinating fabric to use.
I flipped the picture frame upside down and laid a piece of fabric over the back. Luckily I had some fiberfill lying around in my stash, I grabbed a small hunk and pushed it into the back of the frame through the opening.
Once I had the right amount of fiberfill stuffed into the frame, I turned the frame over and worked with the fabric until I had it looking the way I wanted it. Then I cut the overlapping fabric and hot glued the edges down on the inside of the frame to keep everything in place. I also glued the backs onto the frames as well to offer more stability.
Here are the different versions of the framed pincushions that I made:
They turned out so cute and perfect for the sewers and crafters on your list! They are not only super functional but they are a fun new take on a old idea!
