Are you enjoying Ornament Day so far? Let’s see….if you have missed any here is a recap: Sheet Music Ball Ornaments, Vintage Tin Mold Music Ornaments, German Book Ball Ornaments, and Vintage Tin Mold German Ornaments.
I had a stack of leftover vintage maps from my son’s map dresser project and I LOVE to stash bust, especially this time of year! I decided that using them to make Map Ornaments would be a fabulous idea!
I love how each ornament is different and unique, with different colors and destinations. You can’t help but look at each one and try to spot familiar locations. My husband was trying to spot all the military bases, surprise surprise!
You can find a map of your hometown, where you live now, where you got married, or any other special destination. They would make a great gift for newlyweds, neighbors that are new to the area, or for a military family!
Linking up to these great link parties!!!

These are awesome…I love the map idea!
Great idea! I’ll be pinning this!
Love this! I saw something similar on Pinterest last night. I like yours better. I may give it a try.

Yes I used Mod Podge, a tutorial is coming!
Do you know when the tutorial is coming? I’m not very crafty but would love to do this for an ornament exchange in a few weeks. Thanks for the idea!

I didn’t make a tutorial for these last year, as I was selling the ornaments. But I have had so many questions about them, I will be doing a tutorial for them this year! So stay tuned!

i LOVE this idea… one of my favorite map ideas yet. Yours look amazing- you did such a great job making them not bumpy or wrinkly… something I find hard not to do when mod podging paper to anything round. Thanks so much for sharing!
So cute and clever! Consider sharing with my readers at http://sassafrassalvation.blogspot.com/2011/12/sasss-sunday-salvation-show-5.html. Merry, merry!
I love this idea! I would use the part of the map that shows lots of sea!
This is definitely my favorite of your ornaments! I LOVE Mod Podge map projects.
This is such a fabulous idea! I might make one tomorrow! Found you from Home Stories A to Z. Your blog is beautiful. Merry Christmas…
I these for my daughter & her boyfriend for Christmas. They seemed to really like them. I used Pittsburgh/western PA for my daughter’s since that is where she was born & raised; for her boyfriend’s I used Charlotte NC area, where he grew up. I’m planning to make these for my son & dil, with the areas of the country they have lived in, since they are a military family. Thanks for such a great idea!
These are great and I’d really like to make them for Christmas, but how do you make them? What materials do you need and what are the steps?

Yay, I’m anxiously awaiting the tutorial, too! My bucket list only has one thing: visit all 50 states. I want to make one for every state I visit so when I’m old, I can have a whole tree full of these! Will be fun to pass on down the generations. Pinned this so I can be on the lookout for the tut!

Yay! Thank you!!
Courtney, my family and I traveled from the San Joaquin Valley in CA to Seattle, WA for our summer vacation. I photocopied that part of the map and made the ornaments with all the cities we visited exposed so the children can look at it and remember what we did while we were there. Took a little forsight but well worth it. Can’t wait to see the look on their faces when they actually realize it is more than an ornament…it represents memories of family and fun! Thanks for the posting! Raylene
Wonderful idea and I’m thinking about planning a future trip on these and giving them as gifts to our children to see if they can figure out what these gift ornaments mean!!!
