Last year I created my Window Ornament Holder out of an old window that I had laying around. When I came up with the idea I had no idea how it would turn out, I was sorta improvising as I went. I was thrilled with how it turned out! It offers a great amount of color to my Christmas mantel and I just love the hanging ornaments!
I was so surprised when I saw the same idea this year in an Home Depot commercial! My mom was the first one to tell me about it and I’ve even had a few of my readers comment about it. Soooo I guess I am super excited to have inspired the powers that be at Home Depot. But I do have to admit….somewhere deep down inside me, it hurts just a little bit when someone says “Oh hey, you got that idea from Home Depot huh?”. Nope.
I mean, I know it’s silly. This is a DIY blog where I share lots of tutorials and how to’s, the point is for people to gather inspiration and create their own versions. Although, it’s a known law in blogland that if you are inspired by others you should link back! I’m sure I’m being silly and I probably shouldn’t even be admitting it! Am I the only blogger that has ever felt this way?
So my rant is over now.
Thanks for amusing me by reading this! I still love my window ornament hanger!!!
OH, my word!!! This is super fabulous!!! Must make one–thank you so much for your idea!!!
PS: I do feel this way–when I see someone has CASEd one of my cards, I love seeing that they link back to me. When they don’t, I feel a bit upset.
I remember when you posted this last year! I think this was THE project that made me follow you!! haha!! I love this!! And when I saw the ad, I thought of you and wondered if they contacted you….. It’s kinda neat to find out who all you inspire, don’t you think??
Have a wonderful Christmas!

Great idea! What a shame they didn’t give credit where it’s due!
this is a fabulous idea! i love it- such a great way to share all the extra ornaments!
Somehow I much prefer yours! It looks fabulous, it really does. Love your choice of ornaments.
That is so adorable! My goal is to make this next year!!!
Pinning this because it is gorgeous! And no, you’re not crazy for feeling that way, I’d be annoyed/frustrated too!

Well, if it helps, I remember seeing that Home Depot commercial a few weeks ago and immediately thinking how I’d seen the idea on your blog first!
Love it! And have not seen that particular commercial;)
I just hung a red chippy window frame in my living room now I am wishing mine had the levels like yours!
I love this idea – it would be perfect for those ornaments that are a little to delicate to hang on the tree. As far as the home depot issue I would think about like they got the inspiration from you. I always try to look at situations on the positive side.
Love your window hanger and I’m not surprised some mega store stole your idea. Sometimes I feel Pottery Barn trolls blogs looking for ideas for their catalogs. HA! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery – words to live by!

Too cute. Love it
1. Your window ornament hanger is gorgeous and I seriously want one!
2. I’m just really mad that Home Depot would do that, it actually is bound to be illegal somehow, I mean where can we find a really good lawyer? Well, maybe not illegal, I don’t know, but yes I’m really hurt and mad with you. I’d be very upset if it happened to me.
3. Good things come back to those who give.
Hugs,
Mary

I’m now following and looking forward to your new posts!
Thanks,
Angie from A Little Inspiration
I love this! Thank YOU for sharing {not Home Depot}!
I love it and yours looks heaps heaps better than the home depot they should of got you to make them for them. It’s a great idea clever you xx
I saw that Home Depot commercial – it was so blatent of a knock off I assumed you gave them permission. In fact, I only went into this post because I was curious if you had, I remembered your project from last year.
I don’t think you are being unreasonable and I think you should consider calling them out on it. Otherwise, they might just keep doing it.
Love it! Pinned it!
I believe credit should be given where credit is due…Home Depot should say where they got inspired at!!
It looks incredible…unfortunately, things like that happen…something happened to me this week in blogland and it made me sad, too…even when said blogger knew I had helped send her SO much traffic to her site, I mean THOUSANDS OF VISITORS…no recognition or thank you…It’s not a Home Depot, but it’s unfortunate…
This is beautiful!!
Great idea! I think I shall pin this ornament holder.
very cute!!! thanks for sharing!
i LOVE this so. much. totally my style. if only i had a mantle to put one on. and i have never seen this home depot commercial you speak of, so this is new to me! 😉
