Earlier this week I shared My Small and Simple Entryway. It had remained an awkward space for two years and I finally found my perfect solution. On my new entryway wall I hung this DIY Faux Framed Chalkboard.

I’ve had this gold frame for quite awhile, it was a super cheap score! I loved it so much but didn’t know what I wanted to do with, didn’t just want to do more of the same. I wasn’t nuts about the color of the frame though. The gold was appealing to me but just not in this way. So I painted the frame Metallic Gloss Gold by Rustoleum, a much better gold!

For inside the frame, we just cut some thin plywood to fit the opening in the back.

After the wood was cut it was time to paint! I painted it with some Chalky Finish paint in black. It’s not actual chalkboard paint, but it is chalk paint. It has a flat look like chalkboard paint does, which is exactly what I wanted.

I created my design with my Silhouette Cameo and cut it out of vinyl. I weeded out all the lettering so I could use the vinyl as a stencil. With a little bit of transfer tape I placed my vinyl stencil on my wood and made sure it was pressed down really well.

Once the stencil was down, I painted inside the letters with the same black paint I used on the wood. This way if there’s bleeding, it will be the black paint and unnoticeable. Then I painted a white chalk paint in the stencil to mimic “chalk” writing on my sign. When all the paint was dry I rubbed chalk all over the sign and then wiped it down. It’s really starting to look like a chalkboard now!

I just popped the new “chalkboard” into the frame, not actually attaching it to anything. I didn’t want to make it permanent because in the middle of this project I decided that I wanted to create new “chalkboard” for different seasons and holidays! Squee! More reasons to craft!!! So for now, this one is my “Fall” chalkboard. It’s a great reminder!

I feel like the space has come together perfectly!

The Faux Chalkboard was the perfect solution for this spot! To the right is my crib bench and to the left is a huge mirror. I didn’t want to add another bulky furniture piece and I didn’t want another mirror.

Honestly I gave the Faux Chalkboard a try because I am terrible at freehand. I’m also a perfectionist. To be honest, I love the way it turned out and the board really does look like a chalkboard. I’d say it was a crafting win! What do you think?

As most of you probably know, I have a little booth at a place called Sweet Repeats. I sell a lot of my furniture and larger items that I work on, but I also make or put in a bunch of little things too. A little here and a little there.  It takes a lot to keep my booth running and full.

Cabinet Door Chalkboard

I have been trying to crank out lots of smaller projects to fill all the empty spaces in my booth. Like these old cabinet door chalkboards that I made. They are so perfect for the kitchen!

DIY Chalkboards

I also whipped up a couple more chalkboards….I was running low on chalkboards so I grabbed some frames I had lying around and got to work. I’m also trying to do major stash busting before the move!

Fence board signs

I’m starting to think towards summer and I’m starting to put some summer inspiration in my booth. Including these fence board signs, they were such a big hit last year that they are making a reappearance this year!

Book Bundle

And since I’m in a summery mood I decided to put together a little old book bundle. I tied a sweet little starfish to the muslin for a nautical twist.

So there is a little wrap of a few of the things I’ve been up to….off to my booth they go!!!

In September I held a Make & Take where we made some Wood Recipe Holders. I absolutely loved them. So much that I wanted to make a bunch more and find all kinds of purposes for them. My head was just spinning with ideas. I decided that I wanted to turn one into a Wood Pedestal Chalkboard.

Wood Pedestal

Here is a breakdown of all the pieces it took to make the pedestal. If you want even move info you can visit my post about making the Recipe Holders.

Wood Pedestal Chalkboard

I painted the pedestal a beautiful aqua color using some craft paint I had on hand. I wanted to distress the paint and bring out some of the wood underneath, it kinda went with a whole beachy look that was happening!

Wood Pedestal Chalkboard

I went back and forth between using chalkboard paint and chalkboard vinyl. In the end I decided on using the vinyl, the wood was pretty rough and I wanted the writing surface to be nice and smooth.

Once the paint was dry, I applied some satin clear coat for a little added protection. Then I cut the vinyl out to fit the front of the pedestal and applied it to the front.

The Wood Pedestal Chalkboard is so perfect for the kitchen! I am planning on making more in different colors because I love these so much! Wouldn’t they make great gifts, maybe even Mother’s Day gifts!!!

Christmas Chalkboard Countdown http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2012/12/christmas-chalkboard-countdown.html http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2012/12/christmas-chalkboard-countdown.html#comments Thu, 20 Dec 2012 14:00:00 +0000 http://174.132.189.156/~adits/2012/12/christmas-chalkboard-countdown.html
With Christmas just days away I am sure you are all just counting down the days. I know I am. I mean, it’s mostly for my kids….but let’s be real, it’s for me too! Back around Halloween I created a chalkboard countdown. So of course I had to make a Christmas Chalkboard Countdown too!
I made my Christmas Countdown the same way that I created my Halloween tutorial. So if your wanting to make yourself one…just follow that tutorial!!!
I had a lot of fun making some of these Christmas versions too! This polka dot scrapbook paper was so bright and happy!
I know Christmas is highly anticipated in this house, so having a countdown around is so necessary! Does your family countdown???
