I am happy to say that I am finally done with my living room makeover! It took awhile to gather all the items, get things painted up, and arrange them all. Especially because I am super picky and kept changing the arrangement of the items on the shelves. I totally got a work out going up and down my step stool! My living room makeover all started with my Aqua Buffet Entertainment Center.
The minute that I put my new aqua entertainment center in place I was in love with it. Obviously the area needed something more. Awhile back I picked up some wood shelving mounts from Goodwill and these were the inspiration for my Living Room Open Shelving.
I cleaned up and painted the shelving mounts white along with some 1×10 boards that I used for the shelves. Honestly you can’t get pretty shelving for any less than this!
I was able to decorate these shelves with items that I happened to have lying around. It was a hodge podge of items though, mostly from all my thrift store hunting. You may even recognize some of them from some of my Thrifty Thursday posts. I was able to tie a lot of these things together with a little bit of paint.
Some items didn’t need a thing and worked perfectly with the colors I was using, like the fan and white owl. Other items need some help in the color department. Enter some white, aqua, and black spray paint. I even used some fabric scraps in embroidery hoops to further tie the color scheme together.
All of the picture frames came from thrift stores. When I find frames that I like, which means they probably have some fun detailing, I grab them. I have quite a few hanging around just waiting for a project.
I decided to add a few “natural” elements into the mix as well. I grabbed a few faux plants and popped them into an old wood drawer. I used another plant and added it to a painted urn, then propped it all on top of some old worn books.
I of course added some pictures of the family in all my painted thrifty frames. I can never get enough of my beautiful kiddo’s smiling faces!!!

I finished things off with a couple greenery topiaries. I had some milk glass flower pots in my stash that I just HAD to use! I bought some already made greenery topiaries and put them into the pots using some floral foam. Added some spanish moss to cover the foam and they were done. I love that they look the same but the pots are a bit different, adding to the eclectic feel of everything!

I am just totally obsessed with all of the aqua right now! I think that it all came together so well. It’s like my living room just got a big ole breath of fresh air!!!

Aqua Buffet Entertainment Center http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2012/07/aqua-buffet-entertainment-center.html http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2012/07/aqua-buffet-entertainment-center.html#comments Wed, 25 Jul 2012 07:00:00 +0000 http://174.132.189.156/~adits/2012/07/aqua-buffet-entertainment-center.html
Phew! This project was quite the task! I shared how I stumbled upon this lovely buffet table several months ago. This buffet started out in pretty rough shape. I originally thought that I would give this buffet a makeover and sell it. The more it sat in my garage the more I fell in love with it. Until finally I decided that I needed to turn this table into my own Aqua Buffet Entertainment Center.
There were some veneer issues on one of the ends of the table. The veneer was bubbling and pealing off . I pondered what to do to deal with the issue. I knew trying to glue it back down was out of the question due to the warping of the veneer. I ended up pulling it all off and was left with some major ugliness.
Until I totally had an “ah ha” moment!!! I found some awesome textured paintable wallpaper through Amazon. I slapped some of this beautiful wallpaper up on the ends of the buffet  and immediately fell in love with the stuff.
I made up a batch of of DIY aqua chalk paint using some ColorPlace Bermuda Bay flat paint. I have been crushin pretty hard on aqua and decided to take the plunge!
The color turned out beautifully and it brightens the whole room.
This buffet has a little secret though…..because I am super fussy about electronics and wires showing I decided to turn the drawers into hidden cubbies. The hubby helped me turn each drawer into a drop down door to easily hide the electronics when they are not in use. We removed the drawers from the drawer fronts and replaced them with pieces of plywood. The drawer front was attached to the plywood with a couple hinges.

All I have to do is pull on the drawer handles and drop down the drawer front. It’s absolutely fabulous! The process of figuring this all out was not NEARLY as simple as it sounds. The end result however is just perfect!

Talking about the handles, they were in pretty rough shape. I usually don’t mind rusty aged items but it just wasn’t what I wanted for this project. However I wanted to use the old hardware because let’s face it, hardware can be very expensive! So I decided to paint the handles with some ORB spray paint.
Now let’s talk about the wallpaper. Wonder how it turned out? Take a look below. The wallpaper took the chalk paint perfectly and it turned out absolutely beautifully! It’s one of my new favorite products!!!
I did a slight amount of distressing on the buffet, just hitting edges and high points. I didn’t want to overly do it as I am loving the aqua color so much I didn’t want to sand too much of it away. The side cabinets are great for media storage, because again I am not a big fan of that stuff “showing”. I like all those less than pretty things hidden away.
I must admit, this was quite the project! Lots of twists and turns along the way. In the end though, I think it turned out fabulous!
I am absolutely in love with this Aqua Buffet Entertainment Center and I’m happy to say this one is staying with me! I am all too often saying goodbye to project after project that I love but can not keep.
How do you think it turned out???? I can’t wait to show off the rest of my living room makeover!!!
