Junk into Topiaries http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2011/03/junk-into-topiaries.html http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2011/03/junk-into-topiaries.html#comments Wed, 02 Mar 2011 13:31:00 +0000 http://174.132.189.156/~adits/2011/03/junk-into-topiaries.html It’s time for Spring, even if Spring doesn’t know it yet! I guess I really can’t complain, with our lows in the 30’s I know it could be a LOT worse! Still, I am so in the mood for warm weather and beautiful springy colors! Let the Spring projects begin!
I bought these gold urns at a thrift store, as I was paying for them the cashier broke one. She felt so bad, she obviously didn’t know that something as little as this wouldn’t stop me! I got a discount out of it though!
A little bit of Gorilla Epoxy to glue the pieces back together and we were back in business. I used some Gorilla Tape to clamp the pieces together until the epoxy was good and dry. I gave them a paint job, flat black would work much better than shiny gold!
After I found a couple sticks that would work I assembled the topiaries. I purchased the moss balls from Michael’s. They were only $1 more than a plain styrofoam ball, add in a coupon and  it’s not too bad.
Here they are on top of my hutch. As you can see I’ve started breaking out my other Spring decor as well. I think it will take some tweaking before I figure out how I want everything in the new house.
They look super cute next to the moss monogram art. I don’t know that they will stay here though….but for now it’s their home.

Burlap, Moss, and a Monogram http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2010/08/burlap-moss-and-monogram.html http://adiamondinthestuff.com/2010/08/burlap-moss-and-monogram.html#comments Mon, 16 Aug 2010 06:40:00 +0000 http://174.132.189.156/~adits/2010/08/burlap-moss-and-a-monogram.html

For whatever reason I had these three elements in my head and thought it would make a cute wall hanging. I sometimes wonder where these ideas come from? There are times when I see things that other people have made and I want to duplicate it, other times I just have these ideas pop in my head and I can’t seem to shake them. I think this project came about by seeing different elements of a bunch of different projects, it all melded in my mind and I came up with this….

First I needed a large oval frame. Do you know how hard it is to find an oval frame??? I searched thrift store after thrift store, thinking surely….eventually I would find ONE. Nope. I finally found an oval mirror for $11 and change at Big Lots! In my haste to start this project I of course forgot to take the elusive “before” picture of the frame. So I quickly snapped this shot of the back of the frame so you can see the “lovely” gold color that it originally was. I primed and painted the frame a matte black….it was a vast improvement!
I then gathered all my other supplies. I used Mod Podge to attach burlap to the front of the removable back of the frame. I also used Mod Podge to attach the moss to the “C” monogram.

All I needed to do next was attach the “C” to the burlap board with hot glue and put the backing back in the frame. I added a simple black ribbon and called it done.
I am very happy with it and have it hanging over my HUTCH ! Leave me a comment and let me know what you think!
