Pressed Tin Shelf Makeover

Let me start off by saying that I love old things! I love the history that comes with something old. I love how things use to be made. I just like the look of things from the past. However it’s not always possible to find the “old” thing that we are looking for. So we have to settle with something that looks like something old. Awhile back in a trip to Hobby Lobby I picked up this pressed tin shelf.
I loved the pressed tin and I really wanted a shelf to go above my crib bench. I wasn’t so crazy about the black with a coppery color coming through, it just wasn’t me. But it was 50% off and for that price I knew I could make it more….me!
I decided to paint the whole thing with, Heirloom white. What else?
After just a few minutes I began sanding on the fresh paint. The sandpaper started rubbing off the paint on all the raised points on the pressed tin.
Voila!

I instantly fell in love with it! It looks like true old ceiling tin slapped on a shelf. Makes my crafty heart flutter! Next week I will show you what I put on my new shelf!

  17. I just want to say thanks for taking the time to post about this. I have one of those black tin shelves from Hobby Lobby that a friend gave me for my birthday a couple of years ago. I still have never hung it. I’m building my art studio and was thinking maybe I could paint it or something so I went looking for ideas and here you are. I love how your turned out. I may do something similar. Thanks for sharing! Hugs!
