If you’ve been reading the blog for awhile you know I like taking old, broken, forgotten items and making them new. I usually sand the item down, primer, and paint. When family friends gave me this old window I decided to do none of that.
It was fabulously chippy to start with and I decided it needed nothing (although I did spray it down with some Polycrylic to seal in all the chippy goodness). I also knew I wanted to use some chicken wire and the chippy window would look great with some rusty chicken wire. Only problem was I didn’t have any rusty chicken wire hanging around.
So I grabbed a can of Rustoleum’s multicolor textured paint in Autumn Brown . I primered the chicken wire with metal primer and then used the textured paint. I was so happy to see that the paint actually did make the chicken wire look rusty!!!
I attached the “rusty” chicken wire with a staple gun to the backside of the window. It’s probably hard to tell from the pictures but they really do look rusty!
I filled 3 of the holes with the wire and the 3 other holes with some sheet metal that I painted with chalkboard paint. I attached the metal with some E6000 glue to the back of the window.
There’s a place to clip things on and write things down. There’s a place for everything!
I imagine that it would get filled up pretty quickly with all the fun summer fun!!!

I have a window that I primed & painted and had all the pains out to do another project when my Mom’s cat broke one of the panes.. Love this idea.. I like the chicken wire but I didn’t want to do the whole thing that way.. thanks so much for sharing…
