I Spy Ornaments

Happy December 1st!!!
Normally on Thursdays I like to show off my latest thrifty finds, but I decided to change things up a bit. For the month of December I will be sharing some inexpensive gift ideas on Thrifty Thursdays! No matter your financial situation it’s always fun to find gift ideas that are not only “thrifty” but super cute too!
This inexpensive gift idea is for the kids and maybe the young at heart too! I decided to make some I Spy Ornaments. My kids have the books and other “I Spy” toys, so why not some ornaments too?Supplies:

Epson salt
Plastic Ornament Balls
Small trinkets
I decided to use plastic ornament balls instead of glass ornaments for obvious reasons! These ornaments are meant to be handled by little ones so I tried to make them as kid proof as possible. The ornaments can be filled with any small items that you would want, but I wanted to use Christmas themed trinkets to put into the ornaments. They are a mixture of mini ornaments and jewelry making items that I found in the Christmas section at the craft store.
Once all of the little trinkets were in the ornaments I funneled in some epsom salt. I choose epsom salt for a few reasons; it’s white like snow, it sparkles a bit, and I had it on hand.  Okay so having it on hand was a fairly large factor and another way it makes this gift idea even more inexpensive!
I used hot glue to securely attach the top to the ornament, because like I mentioned I was trying to make this as kid proof as possible. I added a bow to the top of the ornament for added cuteness!
If you are able to buy the supplies on sale or use coupons you can make one of these for just a few bucks! These I Spy Ornaments would make great gifts for the little ones on your list!

  30. This is such a simple and creative ornament idea. I am hoping to try and make a few this weekend.

  31. This is a wonderful idea. I made these up for my grandchildren and they love them. However when making them, I at first bought what turned out to be the small plastic ornament ball and found that most of the trinkets I found did not fit. I then found larger plastic ornament balls (Walmart + Michael’s) and was happy that small buttons and other trinkets fit much more easily through the opening.
