My hubby and I celebrated 8 years of marriage on Monday. It’s actually pretty hard to believe it’s been 8 years already. Hard to believe until I think of all that has happened in those 8 years. We’ve had two children, moved 5 times, and lived in a couple different states. I decided I wanted to make my sweetheart a little something to celebrate.
I’m originally from Orange County, California and my hubby is from a small town in Illinois. As you can see we come from two different worlds. Somehow we work so well together!!! I decided to make a little DIY artwork for our home that would represent our hometowns.
Wanna make one for yourself? Here’s what you need:
– Picture frame (I used an 8×10)
-Cardstock (at least two colors)
-Hearts and Plus sign
-Scissors
-Adhesive
I simply googled maps of California and Illinois. I printed the maps on regular computer paper and cut them out. I then traced around the cut out maps onto some white cardstock. Once again I cut out the maps on the white cardstock. I cut out two red hearts and a black plus sign on my Cricut. Each heart is strategically placed to represent my hubby and I’s hometowns. I attached both of the white states to some blue cardstock and framed it all up.
I love how it turned out and so does my hubby! It’s such a sweet way to show where we came from, especially in this crazy military life that moves us all around!
Linking up to these great link parties!!!
I think that’s a really cute idea! Maybe I’ll make one for my hubby and myself – except ours would be the US and Germany. 🙂
Such a cute idea! I love this! I did a similar craft for my sister for her bday I believe. But I took the places that they had lives and cute hearts out of the map and put it in a frame and said “Home is where our heart is” they are in the military so it was perfect and sweet for them!
I would love for you to link this up at our naturally-nifty party this week:

This is a sweet idea, and being a former military wife…my husband retired after 22 years and 13 moves…I know how special those kind of remembrances are. You might check out something I did to remember our crazy military life with little wooden houses marked with each location. It’s here: http://biblelovenotes.blogspot.com/2011/04/may-mantle.html
God bless you…we loved the military life…such great opportunities, meeting so many people, living all over the United States and in Germany. God bless you on our journey.
I had to read your post since I’m from Chicago and my husband is from a small town in California. Very cute!
I love this idea! It turned out so nicely! Might have to whip one of these up for myself! Thanks for sharing.
