The 4th of July is only a couple weeks away and while I already have a ton of patriotic items around my home, I just can’t seem to stop creating more! Today I’m sharing my Wood Flag Wreath.
I found this awesome wood pallet like form at a local craft store called Beverly’s. It looked just like it was a mini pallet with a wire hanger attached to the back. When I saw it I immediately thought I could make an awesome flag decoration out of it.
The first thing I did was grab the wood stain and started staining the wood. I then let the stain completely dry.
It was time to start the painting process. I used some Frog Tape to make off where I wanted to paint certain colors.
I started with the “stars” area of the flag, using white craft paint to start. I also began to paint the white stripes too, especially because I knew the white would need more coats to cover the stained wood.
Once I had a couple coats of the white craft paint in the “stars” area and the paint had dried, I cut out some vinyl stars with my Silhouette. I placed 9 stars evenly over the area (Obviously I took some creative license). I painted over the stars with more of the white paint, this way if I had any paint bleeding it would be white.
After the white paint was dry I painted over the “star” area with a dark blue craft paint. I hit all the remaining “stripes” with some dark red paint. When all the paint was dry I removed all of the vinyl stars and painting tape. It looked so bright and pretty….but I really wanted it to have an old distressed look. So I used some sandpaper and steel wool and gave the whole thing a really good distressing.
When it was all done I hung it on my door and stood back to enjoy it. I absolutely love how it turned out!!!
To me it looks just like an old pallet turned into a beautiful flag wreath, just without all the messy work.
I am a huge fan of door wreaths and changing them out for the different seasons and holidays….I also love to take a different spin on what a door wreath actually is. Long gone are the days of only round wreaths made out of greenery!!! Don’t get me wrong, I love those too!
I may now have too many patriotic wreaths at my disposable!!! I’ll have to figure out where this one will end up!!!
Linking up to these great link parties!!!

I recently rounded up all of my projects of 4th of July’s past!!! Come check out my 4th of July Round Up for lots of red, white, and blue-spiration!!!
Oh my, I love your flag, it’s so nicely done. I don’t have a Cameo to make the stars but do have some vinyl I can work with. Your flag looks great, gorgeous. Sure glad you shared this project with us.
I have a pallet similar to yours outside so will see how I can rig it up to make the flag. Think I’d like to hang that flag out on our front porch all the time, til winter anyway. Of all the decorations I have out I think the flag will say how we feel about our country.
My husband went to Nam with the Jolly Greens 12/26/68, they’re the guys that went over to pick up the shot down pilots. We’d been married 3 1/2 weeks when he left. I consider myself very lucky he came back. I think about all the service people sacrificing their lives now.
Happy days
I love this idea. It looks great. I want to make several now.
About how big is your pallet? I can’t find one in any of the craft stores around me, so I think I will have to make my own.
Thank you!
I love your wood flag wreath (and year of mantels, which I keep coming back to check out). Have you ever thought of selling these wooden flag door hangers? (If you could, could you guide me to the site?) So clever.
Love the wreath…really good ideas with the vinyl stars!! I made a similar door wreath this year…I love the look of something different to hang on your door.
I love your flag … so simple but so great looking! It’s the perfect door decor. I featured you tonight at the Project Inspire{d} link party!
Love how this turned out…So cute as a wall hanging too! We’re having a Summer Wreath Party and I’d be thrilled if you shared this idea:

nice tip about painting over the stars so that the bleed is the color it’s supposed to be. I would never have thought of that!
Your work is very nice, but the American flag never ends in a white stripe…
Thank you. It also doesn’t have 9 stars ; ) This was a wood item that I bought already put together so I didn’t decide how many slats were in it. It’s meant just to be a decorative piece. Thanks for stopping by!
The little wood pallet is on sale 40% off right now at Craft Warehouse!
Thanks Betsy! Unfortunately I don’t have a Craft Warehouse around me….bummer though because it looks great!
Could I please get the measurements of the wood pieces so I could make my own pallet?
The flag is so cute!
Could I please get the sizes of the different wood pieces to be able yo make my own pallet?
The flag is so cute!
What size is the flag, they don’t have something like that around me so I’ll have to build it.
I made this for my dad a year ago for father’s day. He is a veteran and really appreciated it. It hangs on his front door. My problem is everytime I find something I like and make it I get excited and give it to someone else. I need to start making two of everything! It was fun to make, thanks for the idea.
