I always knew that when I finally got a front loading washer and dryer I would want a pedestal for them. Well when we moved into our new home we also got that front loading washer and dryer. It took a few months to get around to the pedestal part though. Then one day my hubby and I decided it was time and before I knew it he had it built. I was inspired by the washer and dryer pedestal from Ana White. However we did need to alter ours to fit our laundry room.
We have built in cabinets in our laundry room, which are awesome for storage. This meant that we couldn’t make the pedestal too high, so we decided to forgo the bottom shelf. We just had the legs go straight to the floor instead of attaching to another shelf.
Another change we made to the original plans was the position of the legs. We decided to have the 4×4 posts go all the way to the top of the shelf instead of just being attached by a bracket. With the bottom shelf gone we figured that this would make the whole pedestal more stable. The legs are a little more pushed back in ours but almost unnoticeable.
Other than having the door opening at the perfect height now, the main reason I wanted a pedestal was to have a home for the laundry baskets. We were always sticking empty laundry baskets in corners to get them out of the way with no real place to keep them. Not to mention the dirty towels, sheets, and random clothes that my kids shed throughout the house. Now everything has a home! The baskets and now I have spots for those random items awaiting laundering. I added some vinyl (cut with my silhouette) to the front of the pedestal to make it easier on everyone. But let’s be honest….I’ll still find piles just outside the baskets.
I absolutely love the washer and dryer pedestal and a HUGE thank you to my hubby for helping with the build. It’s been a home improvement dream come true. What can I say? This is the way to a DIY girl’s heart!!!

Awesome idea!! We just bought the front loaders tonight! The sales lady warned us about using special soap in them, but I make my own soap just as I see you do…. Do you have any problem with your washer and soap?
I have had no issues at all with it. I can’t only speak for my recipe, but there have been no problems!

We are about to start this project today, but hubby is worried about the stability with only using 4 legs. Do you have a hidden support system in here somewhere? Or, do you wish you had?
We hav the legs going all the way to the “top” of the table. Then we screwed the side boards into the legs. We have had no stability issues what so ever. Everything is holding strong!

The wife found this on Pinterest, and we both thought it was a TERRIFIC idea! I’m putting together materials and plans to build this for our laundry room, but am curious about how you attached the “frame” to the 4×4 legs. I’m looking at the picture and see no fasteners. Did you countersink them and fill the holes, or is there some trick that you used to attach them from the inside so they were concealed?

What color did you use for the laundry pedestal paint?
my husband and I just made these as well. But the washer shakes the dryer and it is so loud and annoying. Do you get the stand to vibrate and if not, how did you get it not to?
Trying to convince the hubby to make this for me but he is concerned with the washer vibrating off the pedestal as it moves every time we use it. Also, how did you get your appliances up on the pedestal? That is a major concern without much room to move.

The washer has vibrated on the pedestal but it’s not moved an inch around or off the pedestal. My amazing hubby and his friend hoisted them up there. I stayed out of the way ; )
I want to make this but was wondering if you have exact plans or something that we could go off of. I like that there is no bottom shelf and the legs sit straight on the floor but its hard to find plans for this. Thank you:
These look great and seem to be very stable, but how would you easily pull the washer or dryer out to clean the dryer vent, for example? I would think it would be a 2-person job to pull them off of the platform which seems a bit impractical.
Just curious what your experience has been.

I agree, it would be a two person job. There are two reasons for us it’s not a big deal. To me it is much more convenient to have a daily place for dirty laundry to go and one in awhile clean out the dryer vent, then to not have the storage but being easier to pull the dryer out. Also, we are a military family and move often. So out of necessity we are having to pull out the unit (and can clean it) often based on how often we move.

I created my own words with my Silhouette Amber. I would say either use a stencil to paint them on or possibly you can purchase them from someone that cuts vinyl? Hope that helps!
I was wondering how you reach the water shutoffs and the electrical outlet. I need to raise my cabinets and dh wants to move them out from the wall, but I don’t know how we would reach the water and electrical.

Hi! I fashioned my pedistal after yours- thanks ! My washer seems to vibrate the whole pedistal along with the dryer. It hasn’t moved but wondering if the vibration will cause damage . Have you had any issues with that?

Hi there i just made the pedestal. Im super excited to put washer and dryer on. My question is where did you find that molding to go around legs. It will look so blah if i dont put anything and i see u have on yours. Please help im almosy done.
I believe we got it at Home Depot. I would also check Lowes and/or Michaels. I’m sure most lumber stores will have trim that will work!
