In the not so distant past I’ve fallen in love with making wood block sayings. They are such an easy and simple way to make a cute statement. I’ve made ones for everyday decor and now I’m branching into some holiday themed blocks. Today I’m sharing my Simple Fall Wood Blocks with you.
I had some 2×8 boards cut down to about 6in. The size is perfect for any table, shelf, or vignette.
I stained the blocks with some Minwax wood stain in Dark Walnut. Then I sprayed a clear coat over the wood stain once it was dry. I often find that when I do wood stain it stays slightly tacky, the clear coat takes care of that and protects the nice new stain.
I bought some super awesome shinny gold vinyl and knew I had to use it on my Fall blocks!!! I designed and cut out the gold vinyl with my Silhouette.
So simple right?
I love love the dark wood and gold vinyl. The Simple Fall Wood Blocks turned out perfect, perfectly Fall.

These are so pretty! I have been loving making some distressed signs too. I need to get some vinyl for my cameo. I’ve just been cutting and tracing the letters. Thanks for sharing! – Shelly
These are great! I love the gold vinyl, where’d you find it at?
Love this craft idea! but need more info. – where do you purchase the vinyl? and what is my Silhouette??
Charlotte, I cut the vinyl myself using my Silhouette cutter. It is a wonderful machine that you can cut paper, vinyl, fabric, etc using your own designs as well as designs you can purchase. If you are interested in purchasing one they have their Black Friday sales now. Go to: http://www.silhouetteamerica.com/blackfriday and enter code DIAMOND at checkout!
Hi, I’m new to the silhouette club and am struggling with vinyl! What brand vinyl & type of transfer method did you use? I’m doing a larger stained wood sign and using the silhouette brand vinyl,; it’s a complete disaster. Any tips or resources you could point me to? Thanks!
I really love using Oracal brand vinyl. They have indoor, outdoor, matte, gloss, even patterned! I traditionally use paper transfer tape. I have used it with backing and without….both work fine it’s just about personal preference.
Hope that helps : )
What font did you use for the cursive? It looks like Great Vibes, but isn’t quite the same it doesn’t seem.
It is Lavanderia! Thanks for stopping by Danielle!!!
Would you share the file for thankful?
is the wreath on the thankful one a SIL file? LOVE IT!!!
is the file for the wreath around thankful a SIL file? love it!!!
Yes it is, it’s called “double leaves”.
Did you apply modge podge at the end? Thank you
I sprayed a clear coat of spray paint over the blocks after I stained them. Then I put the vinyl on the blocks once the spray was dry. I never use a top coat over vinyl.
