I am a firm believer, if you don’t like how something looks then PAINT it! It’s amazing what a coat (or a few) of paint can do to transform something. You can take a thrift store find or $1 item that looks a little cheap or dated and give it a whole new life with a whole new feeling.
Paint has to be my favorite “tool”. That is evident by the ever present speckles of paint that adorn my hands and feet. I sometimes wonder what my neighbors think, as I am always outside painting SOMETHING. Sometimes it’s a new project and sometimes it’s just something that I had lying around my house that I decided needed a little change.
Here are a couple items that I deemed worthy of a good coat of paint. The first is a basket that I use to house stray toys in the living room. It’s an easy way to pick up at the end of the day and just tuck away when we have company over. But the basket was a natural color and it didn’t really fit for me, but it was so useful I didn’t want to get rid of it! I thought black would look nice, especially with the cream colored liner. Plus black goes MUCH better in my home!!!
As I was outside spraying the basket my hubby said “I think they sell baskets like that”….to which I responded “Yes I know, but why would I go out a buy a NEW basket when I can just paint this one?”. I am very happy with the new look!
Here is a little tray I have on my nightstand. I’ve seen a ton while out thrifting and I love them, but not their usual goldish color. I’m not really a gold kinda girl. So I gave it a glossy white paint job and love how it looks against my black nightstand!
So don’t be afraid, go grab a can of spray paint in one of the many beautiful colors they have out there, and get to work. The cool thing about a new paint job is, if you don’t like it you can just paint it again. When trends change or your decor does, paint is a cheap way to coordinate and pull everything together.
