I know a lot of places aren’t very green right now, probably mostly covered in white still. We lived in North Dakota for 4 years, so I know that even though it may be “Spring” doesn’t mean it looks or feels like Spring! When we braved the frozen tundra I often tried (usually in vain) to will the snow away and to will the warm weather to come.
I wanted to make a green and mossy wreath to welcome the coming of Spring. I grabbed a grapevine wreath and a bunch of moss I had laying around. I used hot glue to attach the moss, working as I went filling in holes with different kinds of moss to mix things up.
I wanted to add some butterflies and dragonflies but I didn’t really like the look of the ones they had at Michael’s. I wanted them to have a more neutral, subdue look. So I pulled out some of my DecoArt supply and painted them.
I added a few nests with eggs to one side of the wreath and scattered the painted butterflies and dragonflies. I took some fake branches and twisted them around and through the wreath.
It’s very Springy and I’m super happy with it! Although I don’t think it’s going to stay on the front door. I think it’s going to make it’s way inside, stay tuned to see where it lands!

I love it!! I have never used moss like that but have a small stash of it that I got from someone and have been debating what to use it on. I might have to make a small one of these. I have a small wreath form that it would work on!
Gorgeous… was thinking of something to put on my door… but you are right, it will probably end up inside where I can gaze lovingly at it and be WARM!!! Do you think it would look odd to do a wreath like that with three feet of snow on the ground? We just got a huge dump of snow… four days straight!!! I NEED some spring 🙂

Found this on Tatertots and Jello’s linky party. LOOOVE it. I’ve been wanting to do a wreath with moss forever. Martha Stewart did one once with live moss! This looks fantastic. Love the little birdie nests. I love the different colors and textures of moss you used and that you painted those butterflies! So perfect for Spring. 🙂

How sweet and springy! I like how you painted the butterflies. I’ve done the same to birds, but I have never bought the butterflies because those things are so tacky at the store most of the time. Looks like one day I’ll have to find a way to use the butterflies too.

This is so lovely. The colors and texture are fun…but my favorite part are the nests.
Very classy! I’ve seen other moss wreaths, but I love the look of this one. I also like that you painted the dragon flies and butterflies for a natural look – it’s springy and whimsical, but sophisticated.
